Medication review

Bit puzzled Just been called by the gp for a medication review
All good except the meds I’m on are prescribed a hospital consultant

Why would a gp need to review those?surely they can’t override the specialist
Any thoughts anyone ..

It happened to my DF. The gp wanted to prescribe something cheaper!!

It could be a review to find out whether you’re getting on ok with the medication/ experiencing any side effects and assessing your compliance.

It could be to investigate if there is still a clinical need for it. For example, clopidogrel is generally initiated in hospital after someone has a heart attack for 1 year. I see so many people still on it years later because it never got reviewed.

Well the consultant first prescribed it a year ago. The other tablet I’ve been on 20 years and will be on forever
So can’t imagine it’s side effects as I’ve had none at all
I’m under continuing consultant care - not been discharged Not missed any appointments. And I’ve taken the meds exactly as directed
So am a bit puzzled at a review

You may take it properly and have had no side effects but your GP probably doesn’t know this. Communication between hospital and GP surgeries isn’t necessarily the greatest. Or maybe the consultant asked your GP to review you? Maybe they want to continue your care in a community setting rather than hospital?

I’m just giving suggestions! It will depend on what the tablets are for?

As is my DF. The doctor has no part in this part of his health and like you, he is seen by them about it regularly for review. The gp still changed his meds even though they hadn't checked wirhconsultsnt. They said they had to as he other meds he had were too expensive. There was no discussion, he was just told. He's still waiting for his next consultant appointment to be able to discuss/question it.

His drugs are an anti clotting drug linked to a heart condition.
