Stupid question why do my floors never look clean?

Kitchen floor, bathroom floor and conservatory floor. I sweep and mop but there is always, always bits. Dust, hair, etc. They never look clean. Is there something really obvious I'm not doing?

A robot hoover would probably help, it does for us. I think hard floors do tend to get very dusty.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 05/10/2018 17:33

I can't afford a new hoover unfortunately. Sounds great though!

I know what you mean. The only thing that works for me is to get down on my hand and knees and scrub the floor with a scouring sponge.

Enervator · 05/10/2018 18:05

I don't really rate sweeping. Prefer to hoover. Otherwise the mop ends up dragging lumps of missed dust round, urgh.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 05/10/2018 18:36

I've tried hoovering but it's all the corners I just can't get them clean.

Agree - you need to vac first. Then sweep the stray bits of dust missed by the vac. When you've got everything, steam mop. Change the cloth on the steam mop for each room. At least you don't drag around dust this way. But it's hard work. Carpet hides a multitude of sins.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2018 18:39

Whats the floor made of?

Doobydoobydooyeh · 05/10/2018 18:47

No clue. It's 3 different floors. One is lino one is tiles.

I sweep up, then mop with thin bleach applied with a microfibre mop. Then go over it again with white vinegar in a spray bottle, again with a microfibre mop. Makes it shiny.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 05/10/2018 20:57

What's a microfibre mop?

You might need to use a different Hoover head. Also nice dim lighting in the eves and put your feet up.

junebirthdaygirl · 05/10/2018 22:47

I agree with Empress. My dh does a down on knees job to get it sparkling clean..every inch then keeps it going with the hoover. Then we get lazy and the whole cycle starts again. But it looks brilliant after the big scrub... All tiles.

Do you hoover before you mop? I don’t think you can ever get rid of all the dust if you don’t hoover properly before using the mop. In the kitchen and bathroom I get down on my knees too 😂

whydoistayupsolate · 05/10/2018 22:56

I know you said you can't afford it, but in future if you can get a Bissell Crosswave. Vac and mops at the same time. Brilliant.

WTBE · 05/10/2018 23:00

I go over mine with a clean damp mop first leave it 10 minutes, hoover everywhere then use my spray mop and whatever cleaning products. The wetness seems to grab the hair and dust better as I have two long haired dogs and it's a pain in the arse getting all the hairs!

WTBE · 05/10/2018 23:01

That's only downstairs thought, bathroom and kitchen are a hands and knees job 😂

junebirthdaygirl · 06/10/2018 05:49

Not a boast at all as he is not Mr Perfect by any means but obsessed by cleaning those floors. And retired so may be a contributing factor!!

GoldenHoops · 06/10/2018 08:07

Hands and knees here as well. I scrub with floor brush and soap powder. Rinsing and then dry with old towels. Normal wash with a mop everyday, but you do need to Hoover first.

TillyVonMilly · 06/10/2018 08:42

Another one here who vacs then gets down on my hands and knees. A bucket of water with washing up liquid and a microfibre cloth. I’ve tried various mops but they just don’t do the job. Apparently I look like Cinderella Grin
