Sorry in advance. Going through the worst period ever...changing tampon hourly and still some leaking (Am using tampon and towel). Clots about the size of a small matchbox.

This happened before years ago and I got some tablets from GP. However my GP is really hard to get an appt with its normally a 3 week wait. I can't do 3 more weeks of this. Is there anything I can buy over the counter to Help? Or any other suggestions. We don't have out of hours, our nearest walk in is 40 mins away...

You should go to accident and emergency. Passing match box sized clots is not normal and it’s very dangerous. You could have a serious condition. Sorry to be blunt - but you need to hear it.

I get uterine polyps and have passed clots the size of my palm! I’m peri too and am finding every third period is very heavy. My gynaecologist wants me to have the mirena until the menopause but I’m not too keen. As others have mentioned tranexamic acid is good, I also find ibuprofen helps reduce the flow (although you aren’t meant to take it for long). I’ve spent many hours googling alternatives for reducing the flow and weirdly have found cinnamon tea (just cinnamon and hot water) reduces the flow, strange but it works for me!!?

Btw I’ve been under gynae for a couple of years and they says clots are normal in peri.

This level of bleeding isn’t normal. You really need to be checked

How do tampons hold clots in?

I don't "clot" much but they just stick to the tampon?

Kezzie200 · 05/10/2018 22:02

Do see your gp when you can. I was offered a mirena coil and they did tests too in order to check it was just flooding periods.

I wimped on the mirena but im through them now.

Kezzie200 · 05/10/2018 22:03

The clots i had wouldnt have stuck. They were huge!

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 05/10/2018 22:08

Do you think they misheard/ misunderstood when you said matchbox size, and thought you had said match head? Because I would consider a clot as big as a matchbox to be fairly hefty Confused

So I got a call back eventually. The person I spoke to wasn't too helpful...she asked how quickly the blood filled a cup and when I said I couldn't say suggested I sit on the loo to find out! Also told me to see my GP.

I said that didn't work for me as I cant wait 3 weeks for an appt. So grudgingly I got an appt at a new urgent care centre near me (not the awful one). Went there at midnight and got a prescription for tranexamic acid. The dr there was actually really nice and said how no woman should be suffering like this. Anyway feeling a bit better today and wanted to thank everyone for their help and advice Flowers

Glad that you got some help - make that appt with the GP though to see if you can keep a supply at home in case it reoccurs. There are solutions out there so keep pushing! Smile
