Suggestions for short break with elderly relative

My Aunt will be turning 80 next year and we would like to do something with her to celebrate. She cannot walk far at all but refuses to use a walker/wheelchair. She is also very overweight so is not comfortable flying.

She went on a cruise last year but really struggled with the length of the corridors and getting on and off the ship.

Is there anything we can do with her?! We thought a couple of nights in a nice hotel but no idea what we'd do during the day as she wouldnt like a spa.

Aargh, I'm just stuck for ideas! She's always been good to us (single and no dcs of her own) and I'd really like to treat her and get her out of the house a bit!

Things she likes are wine and food! She also likes art but wouldn't be able to walk around a gallery. Films and theatre too. Any suggestions would be greatfully received!

Are there any Wine/Food festivals coming near you?

There's chocolate making etc classes.

But it sounds as though it might have to be a Theater type break.

Unless there is somewhere that she loves, where there is short strolls etc.

Are you near Southport?

My mum goes here with her friends each year. All over 80, one quite hefty, one deaf, one with severe mobility problems.

I'm not sure what they get up to but they all have a blast. My mum says it's very flat which is why they go back.

Have a look at coach holidays maybe?

My DM has just been to Eastbourne with her friend on a coach holiday. It worked well for them, her friend isn’t very mobile but they’re more than used to people with mobility issues and help cater towards them.

Shearlings is the company they used. I think that’s how you spell it?

My mum has mobilty needs and wont use walking aids apart from a stick. Her and her partner like to do half board and have a strole around town in the day. He drives everywhere and will pick her up from places so she doesnt have to struggle back to the car.

My parents in their eighties are great fans or Warner Hotels who seem to cater well for elderly customers and those with mobility issues.

They have a range of hotels across the country.
