Weighted blankets

Just thought I'd share my experience with mine as I know they're hideously expensive things just to take a punt on. It's really helped with my nighttime anxiety. I also fall asleep faster, and wriggle less during the night. I don't necessarily sleep for longer, or not wake up in the night, but it does improve the quality of my sleep. I have ASD and it's great for grounding me if I'm very anxious. On the down side it's very heavy to move about (I went for an 11lb one) but that's a minor consideration. I bought mine on amazon and it was £140

Thanks for that. I’m considering buying one for similar reasons. I think that I will invest. 😊

I really love it. Just before I fall asleep I fell like I'm being held by an Adonis (I wish I was). It is definitely a good investment.

Do you not get too hot? I really like this idea but i get quite warm of a night.

DS has one from Etsy and loves it.

I have a wool duvet which is quite light so it's not too bad on a milder night. But I have used it alone with just a sheet in the summer and it was fine.

I use a wool camp blanket with ds sometimes when he’s having a run of bad nights. It’s quite heavy so a similar effect.

I also use sheets and blankets- again much nicer than a duvet because of the weight!

Knitwit101 · 04/10/2018 07:35

Is it comfortable? Snuggly? I keep thinking about making one for ds but he likes the duvet wrapped right round him and I can't imagine s weighted blanket would be so good for that.

IceBearRocks · 04/10/2018 08:16

DS has had a weighted blanket for about 7 years. It works well for him. If you find a reputable supplier. For children the blanket should have pockets where you can add extra weight as they grow.
For those with sensory problems it's a brilliant tool!

I’ve often wondered about them, the heavier the covers the better I sleep.
