Housewarming Gift

Finfintytint · 03/10/2018 16:27

My son and his girlfriend have just moved into a rented house together. DH and I will visit at their invitation in the next couple of weeks (250 miles away).
I want to bring a housewarming gift but my son is not expressing any wants or needs " Mum, we are fine, we don't need a thing".
I've offered a fridge, a lawn mower, a coffee machine, etc which is met with " no, just come" Grin.
I know I don't have to provide a gift but I really want to.

I remember when DH and I had our first home and I loved the thoughtful stuff people gave us.

The question is what sort of gift can I give them that wouldn't matter if it was duplicated?

No point in giving a slow cooker for example if they already have one.

Agree. Cash or vouchers is a lovely idea - it allows them to make their own choices.
A photo frame is the type of thing that you display begrudgingly, but secretly hate.

Either something consumable like food, booze, flowers, candle - or £.

Possibly towels, as long as they're neutral.

Thank you for your ideas everyone.

The landlord lives there too ( son's pal whose parents have bought him the house).
Son is adamant they don't need anything so guess I will stick with a cake and vouchers.
