Coil removal and pregnancy

Had coil removed yesterday prior to TTC.
It sounds stupid but never considered length of time sperm can survive as always assumed it would take some time for cycles to get back to normal.

Anyway, DTD a LOT this past week, coil came out yesterday... so if sperm last up to 5 days does that mean in theory it was unprotected?
And if so when should I test?!
No problem if I could be obviously!

It's highly unlikely that you would be pregnant. You need to ovulate as well as the presence of sperm. Presuming that you had your coil removed before it became ineffective it'll probably take a minimum of 2 weeks for you to ovulate.

The nurse doing my last smear told me I'd have to abstain for 5 days before in case of this, although that seems silly if ttc. I guess lots of women take them out for other reasons tho.

What kind of coil did you have?

Mirena

In that case you would be unlikely to be pregnant straight after removal, because it would unlikely you would have ovulated whilst the coil was in (although not impossible)

Wishful thinking on my part!

Mirena doesn't stop you ovulating.

BeyondFear2020 · 03/10/2018 18:25

Ah, sorry, I thought it did stop ovulation. Ignore my previous post

I had my mirena removed about 4 weeks ago and was asked last time we have had sex, she was going to refuse to take it out as it was a few days prior, but I didn't have it in for contraception dh has had a vasectomy.
