Smaller size (4-5/5-6) grey school trousers with hook and bar fastening...help!!

Does anyone know who stocks smaller size school trousers in grey with a hook and bar fastening. Ds is 8, but very small, he has additional needs with lots of sensory difficulties and struggles with toileting, but actually finds it easier to deal with trousers like this than any of the pull up and down trousers that are the standard for smaller sizes, and really hated the M&S easy dressing range.

As a result I have one pair of trousers he will wear (washed every night!) ....they were from a school sale, so have an age (4-5) but no other identifying label!!

Any help in where I might get some (otherwise I will end up in a sad face photo in an article about broken Britain, mothers sending kids to school in pyjamas.....)

Just checked ds's trousers, and they are from Aldi. Age 4-5.
I know that's not a huge amount of help, seeing as they only do them occasionally, but it might let you keep an eye out on eBay etc.

Asda or Tesco, my ds is 7 but is very tall but slim and their trousers fit him perfect.

Just a suggestion - these wouldn't be hard to make. Find a dressmaker and ask her to replicate the pair you have. It wouldn't be overly expensive and you'd be sure he'd be able to wear them.

Have you tried Matalan and Sainsbury’s ? No chance of my son being able to do the metal clasp and I’m sure Sainsbury’s had that

I’m heading to Sainsbury’s this morning - I can take a look for you.

My son prefers this type rather than button up. I get all his school trousers and shorts from Tesco as they do this type. I have just passed on a load of smaller size ones to a friend otherwise I would have happily sent them to you.

We got some from lidl but don’t think they do them all year round. We also have some from Asda

SleepyPaws · 03/10/2018 09:43

We've had that style fastening from Next. They do age 4,5,6 rather than 4-5 and I've always found they fit best when my boy is in between sizes.

DS always has John Lewis trousers- they're hook/bar, elastic waistband adjustable too. Tbh, I think he doesn't undo them most of the time. He's pretty small for his age, and the JL ones two years younger have always been the best fit for his build. They do slim fit ones too, but despite being a skinny wretch (doesn't eat) he has a muscly bottom from sport, so we go with the normal cut. I have in the past bought them, and turned them up one fold for about six months, but tbh they get worn that way, then when you undo them there's a clear line where they've been altered, so I don't do that now.
They're not too expensive in small sizes, and do different thicknesses- think the cheaper ones were £11 for two pairs.

I have these exact style and colour from Debenhams. They are the regular fit.

M&S now sell long & extra long trousers with the hook fastening. Cold you maybe buy some of the size 4-5 from there but in the long or extra long so they're fine round the waist & can be taken up if too large now & let down again when needed. That way they should fit him for a while.

I've literally just took some tags of some Asda trousers today for ds size 4-5 with zip and fastening. Also have buttons for adjusting.

Justlikedevon · 03/10/2018 16:00

If you can't get any, you could try stitching a bit of Velcro behind the button and the other bit over the button hole so he can do them up more easily.
