Would you try and maintain your weight or let yourself lose it?

I'm 22 weeks pregnant. Pre pregnancy my BMI was 27.7. I've lost a stone since conception and it's now 26.4 (this is not adjust for pregnancy). I've lost it mainly due to a severe reduction in appetite and went off sweet stuff. I am simply eating a lot less. I'm also struggling to eat vegetables but combating this by doing hidden veg sauces and soups, which is fine.

My appetite has started to increase, but not by much. I can now however stomach milkshake and hot chocolate, which I couldn't before. By having a milkshake and a hot chocolate every day (cadburys drinking chocolate made with 50/50 skimmed and semi skimmed milk) my weight has now stabilised. However I realise that this is a lot of sugar.

So would you use the milkshake and hot chocolate to maintain your weight or allow yourself to lose it?

Just eat healthily, and don't worry about weight. Are you getting a balanced, varied diet? Including fruits and vegetables of different colours? Enough protein, Vitamins/minerals etc? That's the important part. Try not to overdo the sugar, but you do need to eat enough to combat the tiredness/work of creating a baby.

ChateauRouge no I'm not. That's my concern. If I try to eat more I throw up everything I've eaten so get nothing, so have only been eating to my appetite. I'm only sick if I overeat, but 'over eating' is less than a normal persons portion. I guestimate I'm eating around a quarter of my previous portion. It also happens if I eat little and often. I can only I can only eat what I fancy (which is homemade soup and Bolognese with hidden veg mainly) and only in small quantities and when I'm hungry. I'm not nauseous or sick any other time.

You need to do, as much as you can to maintain your weight and stay well nourished. If you can, don't bother mixing in skimmed milk. You absolutely don't need a low fat diet, if you can stomach the creamier milk. The fat in milk also contains important vitamins.

If you're concerned about sugar, try using cocoa powder and controlling the sugar content. You could also try protein shakes or complain.

And this is DC2 - I lost around 8lbs with DC1 and had regained my appetite by 17 weeks, so this is new to me!
