Anyone up? In agony

Got home from work yesterday and started to feel crap. Severe facial pain across my jaw and cheek and going into my ear. I have never felt pain like it, even in labour. Was seen by OOH Gp at 9pm who said likely sinus pain. No signs of infection. Flip me though - it hurts so bad. Due more paracetamol at 1.15. Just wanted to vent.

Did ooh gp suggest anything to help with the pain? Could you take ibuprofen interspersed with the paracetamol - I did this with a horrendous toothache and it made it just about bearable.
Have you tried steaming to maybe help clear it? Sudafed? Drink plenty so you stay hydrated?

Sorry not sure if any of this helpful but didn't want to not post! Hope you feel better soon.

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea · 03/10/2018 00:37

Are you sinuses blocked? Try putting a hot wet cloth over the affected area. It helped me when I had sore sinuses. Does the pain feel nervy? You can rotate paracetamol with ibuprofen. Every two hours. Hope you feel better soon xxx

JaneJeffer · 03/10/2018 00:39

I'd get a dental check up if I was you. I doubt you'd have sinus pain like that without infection. And paracetamol aren't strong enough for such bad pain.

Thank you Pumpkin, yes he suggested steaming and olbas oil etc. I can't face it though. He also recommended co-codamol as I am allergic to ibuprofen but I can't get any until tomorrow.

Thanks Jane and Tea. I don't think my sinuses are blocked. I can breathe through my nose easily and and am not snotty. I think it is more tooth related. Poo!

Second using paracetamol and ibuprofen together. I think ear ache is the worst let alone in conjuction with toothache / jaw ache! Try to note down when you've taken any meds to ensure you don't overdose. Do any teeth feel bad? Clove oil applied directly on affected area really helps but your issue seems more sinus based. Did the OOH Dr recommend steaming? I live with chronic pain but completely understand how awful and miserable you must feel! Flowers

MrsCatE · 03/10/2018 00:48

Apologies, cross posted with your update re ibuprofen x

Graphista · 03/10/2018 00:52

Your nose being clear is nothing to do with sinuses being blocked. It's a space in the facial bones that's blocked possibly by infection.

This is something I've had many times over the years.

Why can't you 'face' steaming, olbas oil etc? Because you are indeed in agony if this is what's wrong and these WILL relieve the pressure and pain.

Butterymuffin · 03/10/2018 00:53

No more advice but Flowers for you and hope you can get cocodamol asap tomorrow.

Thighofrelief · 03/10/2018 00:55

OP does it feel like a 300 pound finger boring into a specific spot on your face? Or does it feel like zaps?

LongDarkTeatime · 03/10/2018 01:08

Take an antihistamine asap.

I get this, nearly went to the dentist to beg for root canal last time it was so bad, then DH reminded me to take an antihistamine. Gradually eased it.
Worse case it won’t do anything, best case it’ll help you too.

dingdongdigeridoo · 03/10/2018 01:14

I sympathise. I often get sinus pain. Sudafed is good for sorting it out. But when it really hits, co-codamol is the only thing that eases it for me. A hot steamy shower or bath can help a bit too.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 03/10/2018 01:16

Temperature?

Carlyrichards · 03/10/2018 01:17

I have done the olbas oil and that hasn't helped. I can't face steaming as I don't feel well enough to stand over the sink and do it. The pain is in long deep waves across my cheek, jaw, eye socket, and ear. Thanks for advice all, I am going to try and sleep.

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 03/10/2018 01:17

Ouch, sinus pain is so painful. I also gargle with warm salt water a few times a day to help with any infection.

Hope you feel better soon.

Carlyrichards · 03/10/2018 01:17

No, no temp and no signs of infection said GP at 9pm last night

OP posts:
Graphista · 03/10/2018 01:20

You don't have to bend over a sink, you could have a bowl of hot water and put drops of olbas oil in it or vapour rub and sit next to it breathing it in slowly.

Certainly sounds like sinus pain.

BlankTimes · 03/10/2018 01:20

Try Neilmed Sinus Rinse from the chemist.

if you can't stand bending over a steamer to inhale oils or steam, can you stand upright in a steamy shower?

Thighofrelief · 03/10/2018 01:21

OP do you have any inflammation issues, any rheumatoid arthritis in the family?

GloGirl · 03/10/2018 01:21

Jaw pain can be a sign of a heart attack I thought? If you're generally unwell please consider signs of heart attack in women and seek a second opinion.

If I'm way off base phone up first thing tomorrow for an emergency doc appointme t and an emergency dental appointment and go to the soonest one Flowers

GloGirl · 03/10/2018 01:23

Ps - steaming.

Have a bath or shower, use olbas oil in water. Or boil kettle, fill bowl, use couple drops oil and sit down with bowl on coffee table, your face bent over it and tea towel over your head to trap steam in.

Thighofrelief · 03/10/2018 01:25

I had terrible terrible facial pain for a while and it was scleritis, took ages to diagnose but eventually went with prednisolone after being treated for sinus, toothache, everything. The pain was mostly in the middle of my cheek.

Thighofrelief · 03/10/2018 01:28

Wonder if it could be trigeminal neuralgia, that's so painful. Just a couple of things to suggest to GP. When i had the scleritis i couldn't stay asleep i was in such pain and drove myself to A&E where they had an out of hours GP.

pumkinspicetime · 03/10/2018 01:52

I went to the dentist last month stating that I was in agony and must have an abscess, the pain went all up the front of my face. It turned out to be sinus related. I had a nasal allergy spray, a saline rinse and perscription strength decongestants perscribed by dentist (in us) a week later all of the pain was gone. The dentist wasn't surprised, It must happen a fair bit.

Rebecca36 · 03/10/2018 02:29

Do go to your dentist, you could have temporo-mandibular joint pain.
Your dentist will see you urgently and should be able to tell what the problem is, will refer you to an oral surgery department if necessary. Doesn't mean you have to have surgery, just the name of the department.

Don't leave it!
