I am looking for experience gifts for dh for a significant birthday - possibly a few experiences depending on price. My possibles list so far are:

Driving a bus
Flight simulator
Knife skills (cooking)

Ones I have ruled out are:

Clay pigeon shooting (done before)
Flying lesson in real plane (he doesn't fancy it)
Hot air balloon (He also doesn't fancy)
Anything adrenalin focussed e.g. bungee, parachuting

Any ideas very very welcome

x

Shows in London
Golf lessons
Thames dinner cruise

All of these I have given and have been greatly received :-)

Treasure Trails voucher . It's got me and DD out to different places and had some fun days out exploring

Longdistance · 02/10/2018 23:06

I wouldn’t rule out the flying the plane one. I did, I was so nervous, but had such a great time. Although I was lucky enough to be circled by a Vulcan fighter jet. This was 10 years ago.

What about a day at the races?
Racing car/motorcycle around a track?

Golf lesson is a great idea - would have to be for a complete beginner though but I think he'd love it.

Zombie experience. My husband enjoyed that. Escape the room.

DianaBlythe · 02/10/2018 23:21

Being the driver for the day of a steam train
Theatre/Comedy tickets
Meal out
Escape rooms
City specific things - London Eye/Shard at sunset
New York Helicopter Flight
Mixology

I’ve done Cook schools a couple of times and they’ve been excellent.

DianaBlythe · 02/10/2018 23:22

I believe you can also do tank driving

DragonScales · 02/10/2018 23:23

I have a dh who buys what he wants so is impossible to buy for as he already has the things he wants! So I tend to do a lot of gifts/experiences

He liked a Segway tour at local castle, tickets to see a 80s pop group, years ago I got tickets to the paralympics which was amazing. Sometimes I'll get him an upgrade to a sports event so pay extra for really good seats.

I occasionally find bargain flights to somewhere, book us into a nice hotel and have dinner out.

tigercub50 · 02/10/2018 23:25

I got a Birds of Prey experience & loved it - would definitely do it again. What about zookeeper for a day?

TruelyTruelyScrumptious · 02/10/2018 23:28

Been bought a few- never used one of them.

You have to be very sure that the recipient will like them.

MichelleJ79 · 02/10/2018 23:28

My arranged a battlefield tour of the D-Day Landings for my DH who is into history especially military history which he really enjoyed. You can do other battles/ campaigns but that was what he was interested in.

Timetobookaholiday · 02/10/2018 23:28

Scuba diving?

Zhx3 · 02/10/2018 23:32

I bought dh an afternoon tea at an extremely nice hotel (dd was angling to be his +1!).

For his significant birthday I booked us a lovely hotel in the Lakes and climbed a mountain with him. Hotel provided dinner both nights and a packed lunch for the climb. It was lovely.

mayhew · 03/10/2018 08:10

I had a knife skills session. Apart from enjoying it, it's given me something I use every day.

MaxPepsi · 03/10/2018 09:07

Knife skills lesson?
Please tell me more.

I received a driving experience for my 40th. Loved it, but don't think it was worth the money my IL's spent, plus when we got there, we had to pay extra for things that we thought would have been included.

Deminism · 03/10/2018 11:19

What kind of extras @MaxPepsi?

OP posts:
DiscoMoo · 03/10/2018 11:47

DH and I have had and loved:
Zookeeper experience
Race cars
Hovercraft (mini, drive yourself)
Falconry
Helicopter flight
Fly a plane
Afternoon tea
Picnic in a cider orchard
4x4 off road driving
Zip line in North Wales

I’m looking at drive a train for DH next.

MaxPepsi · 03/10/2018 16:27

We had to pay extra insurance for the cars I chose.
Extra to drive one of the cars as it wasn't included, even though it said it was.
And to actually make it worthwhile and get an experience, pay for extra time in the car so I could drive it for longer.

I'm sure it was in the small print but my MIL bought it and she won't have thoroughly checked it.

GarlicBreadItsTheFuture · 03/10/2018 19:30

Drive days vary a lot in quality but I can vouch for Supercar Drive days - always had great experience with them.

Cooking courses at Leiths - excellent

Mixology at the London Bar School was great but I don't think they run it any more

Indian cooking with Monisha - loads of fun and learned a lot

Wine courses at Berry Bros - pricey but worth it

Hot Air Ballooning - hard to book due to weather but awesome

Can you tell I love experiences!

RedPandaMama · 03/10/2018 19:33

Escape rooms are brilliant!

Laska5772 · 03/10/2018 19:37

Lots of small heritage narrow gauge railways do 'driving a steam train' experiences. . Both my Dh and Ds would love that s

SandAndSea · 03/10/2018 19:39

Escape room
Tank ride
Vineyard Tour
Monkey experience

I'd like to know more about the zombie thing - anyone?

feellikeanalien · 03/10/2018 19:40

Does he like sport? I arranged tickets for what was then called the Charity Shield for DP. It was the team he had supported all his life but never been to see.

We were living abroad at the time so I presented him with an itinerary in his card for our trip and at first he thought that I was joking!!
