Am going to be staying at a friends house overnight which I haven't done for years , and just wondered what people usually do re the bed when they leave friends /families homes . Do you just tidy it ? Strip the sheets ?

I do.

JLG19 · 02/10/2018 19:45

I’d just tidy it. If she’s slovenly she may not wash the sheets... before or after! Wink

Pebblespony · 02/10/2018 19:45

Just tidy it. Never stripped it or had it done in my house.

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/10/2018 19:46

I ask if they want it stripped.

laceygo · 02/10/2018 19:46

@JLG19 GrinConfusedcheers for that thought lol

I ask.
I am very pleased if guests do it, but when I asked my cousin if I should strip sheets at hers she said to leave them as wasn't planning to wash them for a while ( but before next visitors came I assume Smile)

chemenger · 02/10/2018 19:48

Just tidy it. I don’t always immediately wash spare bed sheets so would prefer it left made up. They would be washed before the next guest, obviously.

Armchairanarchist · 02/10/2018 19:48

Yes, empty the bin if you've used it too and I take wipes to clean any surfaces.

laceygo · 02/10/2018 19:50

And what about flushing toilet in the night ? Confused

OP posts:
YeTalkShiteHen · 02/10/2018 19:51

I strip the bed, and tidy up the room so the host doesn’t have to.

I’d ask about flushing the toilet in the night tbh.

laceygo · 02/10/2018 19:52

For those that strip the bed do u just mean bottom sheet and pillowcase ? Or duvet cover also ?

OP posts:
HildaZelda · 02/10/2018 19:52

For a night or two no, but I did spend a week at a friend's during the year and asked her if she wanted me to put the bed clothes in the machine on my last day. She was delighted with that.
Yes, I certainly flush in the night. Don't want anyone waking up to any surprises in the morning!

laceygo · 02/10/2018 19:53

Yeah the toilet thing is minging... I'm gonna flush Smile

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 02/10/2018 19:53

No. I wouldn't want someone to do it at my house and would be annoyed.

legalseagull · 02/10/2018 19:53

If a guest stripped the bed I would assume they'd had an accident! Grin

Always flush!!!! I'd rather wake up for five seconds than be faced with someone else's wee!

laceygo · 02/10/2018 19:54

@PrimalLass really ? Oh god , such a minefield ... so much easier in hotels Confused

OP posts:
BigGreenOlives · 02/10/2018 19:54

I ask the host what they’d like me to do.

DC18 · 02/10/2018 19:55

Is just make it up rather than stripping it. My friends and I crash at each other's often and the bed is stripped and washed immediately prior to the staying rather than just after the previous guest. Flushing at night is preferable than leaving a messy toilet overnight x

PrimalLass · 02/10/2018 20:07

@PrimalLass really ?

Yes, it is totally overstepping IMO.Like you think I'm not quite able to cope with doing it, or something. and I might want it left like that for now.

SoyDora · 02/10/2018 20:10

After a night I’d just make the bed rather than strip it. We often have overnight visitors and they do the same here. Then I or DH can strip it at our leisure.

Yerroblemom1923 · 02/10/2018 20:11

Don't strip it. Looks like you've had an accident! And I think the flush rule depends on what you've done. If only a wee then dont flush but set your alarm early so you can flush before anyone else gets up.

BiscuitDrama · 02/10/2018 20:11

I’d presume they’ll say if they have a light sleeper/noisy loo and want the loo not flushed.

happymummy12345 · 02/10/2018 20:13

I would ask before doing it. I would always ask and do what they said they wanted doing. I would never just leave it.

PuppyMonkey · 02/10/2018 20:19

I’ve had guests strip when they’ve stayed with me Grin Winkand am always slightly miffed that they do it.

I know they’re trying to be helpful and polite, but I like to decide when I’m going to wash bed sheets. It can be a faff to get them dry and I usually have a pile of other stuff that’s more urgent. Just leave the sheets, they’ll be fine until I have the time to deal with them.

Tentomidnight · 02/10/2018 20:23

I hate it when guests strip the bed. I’d never do it at someone else’s house.
And always flush in the night, why wouldn’t you? Is that a thing?
