I did not know where to post this, and i appreciate this is just IMO
I am bored at work so flicking through daily mail online for a bit of sleb twaddle ( the only time i do this you understand )
And came accross headline article about Lauren Silverman ( partner of simon cowell , mother of child aged 4) . The pics are lovely, and the commentary is gushing about how fab she looks.
And she does look amazing but she has a soft curved shape, a bit of a mummy tum, and the odd slight underarm boob bulge .
She looks amazingly good and fab and healthy and normal....and she looks a happy , well maintained but normal 41 yr old mum.
the article is very flattering and i thought WOW the DM actually being nice about someone with a very normal figure.
It was so refreshing and it is not the first time i have seen pics of her and thought how nice and normal shaped she was.

It's a while ago now, but they did the same thing for Lara Flynn Boyle. Sex symbol on the 90s but plastic surgery has changed her face and she has a tummy and dresses very plainly. Most Hollywood type press make fun of her but the daily mail wrote a really flattering piece about her being relaxed and out shopping and how good her legs look etc. It was refreshing to see them being nice about someone who has been made fun of so much in her recent press.

Bombardier25966 · 02/10/2018 18:45

What's nice about publishing photos of a woman spending private time with her child? It's intrusive and uncalled for.

theredjellybean · 02/10/2018 18:46

ooh thank you for posting fiffyshades..i feel less alone in my secret DM habit now.
plus i am 53 and look quite alot like lauren silverman's figure ..so felt sort of validated as i think i am bit podgy and hate the slight boobage under arm thing

theredjellybean · 02/10/2018 18:47

oh , i hadn't actually thought about it like that, i guess maybe because simon cowell is very happy to parade his son in front of press and on tv etc , and they are on a public beach ??? they do interviews for sleb mags etc..not sure you can have it both ways if you are in the public eye and court publicity

Ohyesiam · 02/10/2018 18:49

Well it’s certainly nicewithin their normal standards!

MattBerrysHair · 02/10/2018 18:50

I suppose what would be really nice of the DM was to feature a story on a woman without feeling the need to pass comment on her body at all.

lostfrequencies · 02/10/2018 18:51

Also struggling to see how this is so "nice".

Jakethekid · 02/10/2018 18:52

Usually though, when the daily mail post photos of people in their swimwear or something skimpy, they are doing it to make a point. It doesn't matter how many times they say how fabulous the person looks, they often do it to body shame so their readers will comment and do the shaming for them.

EnidButton · 02/10/2018 18:53

Not read it but sometimes they go on about someone looking amazing and wonderful etc, when the pictures aren't exactly flattering, in order to draw attention to the fact the person isn't looking that amazing and wonderful, and the DM 'journalist' can claim to be innocently 'being nice'. It's also to provoke nasty comments in the comments section where pondlife can strongly disagree with the description in the article. They do it very often.

Like I said I haven't read it and wouldn't give them a click but that could be what they're doing.

TheSpottedZebra · 02/10/2018 18:55

YES Enid. That is exactly what they do. They do it to men too now (much less often), so I guess that's progress.

SomeKnobend · 02/10/2018 18:56

They post pictures of women in swimwear and then comment on their body. It objectifies women. They know they'll only get away with it if they say "nice" things, but the problem is the attitude that it's OK to publish photos of women alongside comments about their physical attractiveness. It's not OK and it's certainly not "nice"!

theredjellybean · 02/10/2018 18:56

oh dear..i am clearly very naive and just thought they were genuinely nice photos and a nice article..i must find something else to read while bored at work.

OP posts:
theredjellybean · 02/10/2018 18:58

honestly thank you for the posts but i dont need to be flamed for just thinking that a rag that is normally so vile about any woman who is less than stick thin, was being nice to say nice things about a normal shaped person .
i was obviously naive about their intentions

OP posts:
TheSpottedZebra · 02/10/2018 19:00

Er - there's no flaming.

EnidButton · 02/10/2018 19:00

Imagine a really bitchy bully doing a fake smile at someone "omg I love you're dress! It really suits your shape. Totally shows off all those curves!" then smirking with their friends and mouthing "fat cow" as the person walks away.

That's The Daily M.

EnidButton · 02/10/2018 19:02

No flaming just helping you see what's what. I'm sure she did look good and it's a positive that it didn't recognise twatttish behaviour. Means you're not one.

WorraLiberty · 02/10/2018 19:02

I genuinely can't get my head around how many Daily Mail readers, claim to generally dislike the Daily Mail Confused

If you think they're generally unkind to people OP, why do you help to fund them?

I'm not sure 'for the celeb twaddle' really answers the question either.

BertramKibbler · 02/10/2018 19:02

It’s usually done as click bait to get all the commenters to disagree! What do the comments say?

EnidButton · 02/10/2018 19:02

*your

TheDowagerCuntess · 02/10/2018 19:04

Amazed at the amount of Daily Mail haterz who avidly read the Daily Mail.

It really is a piece of shit, and it is actually incredibly easy to avoid.

And YY to Enid.

Thatstheendofmytether · 02/10/2018 19:08

Mum tum? Arm boobage? I'm not sure I'm seeing the same picture as you OP.
Why any paper feels the need to publish pictures of women or men in their swimwear and then comment on their body in anyway is beyond me. No, it's not nice.

ExCharlieBucket · 02/10/2018 19:11

well they did a real bitchy number on Kate Moss yesterday. She has dared to put ona bit of (much needd) weight

They also rana piece about two gay penquins who tried to kidnap another couple' penguin. Totally ridiculous!

DM are never "nice"

PickAChew · 02/10/2018 19:17

Why do they feel the need to go on about a woman's body, as if she's cattle at market, anyhow? It's intrusive.

FabulousTomatoes · 02/10/2018 19:21

Exactly EnidButton. It’s horrible, passive aggressive woman-shaming at its finest. They’ve done it to Kate Moss today too.
As a pp said, what would be nice would be an article that doesn’t pass comment on a woman’s figure, and perhaps based it solely on her achievements. But the DM is the most misogynist piece of bile-spewing filth out there.
