What's the rules?

Taking children away in term time

I'm literally considering 3 days in the week before the holidays begin (because it's MUCH cheaper)

But what's the rules? Is it an absolute no and they'll fine you and come down on you like a ton of bricks? Do you as a parent get to decide but possibly face the consequences? Or is it just up to each school?

Up to each school. I don't think fines are usually applues unless it's 5 days.

What age are the children? If primary then I'd just factor in the cost of the fines to the holiday, I wouldn't do it at all for secondary.

Do the teachers HATE you for doing it? Or in the week before holidays begin do you think that it's more acceptable than mid term?

It's not great to do it and school can fine you. My school has fined a few people. As a teacher it can be incredibly annoying if child is on holiday when you start new topic.

I doubt they'll start a new topic 3 days before they break up though for the holidays?

The odd day off throughout the year is fine.

I get irritated when some children have more than one holiday. Or when parents come asking for work to take with them!

Also means they miss out on learning, which sometimes won't be repeated until the next year - that can create gaps for them later on.

3 days at the end of term is not really disruptive to learning. They may miss out on end of term treats etc though, depending on the school.
