What is all this 'winning the thread' bollocks ?

I've read this several times over the last few days.
Poster (let's call them Rumplestiltskin) makes vaguely sensible post and someone pops up and says Rumplestiltskin wins the thread (or sometimes 'wins the internet' usually followed by manic GrinGrinGrin

Why do people do that - it's mad ?
There's no contest going on in the first place, and in the second place even if there were a contest why have they appointed themselves judge?
It's getting on my nerves (although I will admit to being low on patience at the moment.)

I won a Ladybird book in pass the parcel when I was about 6 and then only because I refused to let go of the parcel.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2018 23:05

The idea of a 'stairwell boat' bent my brain a bit for a moment there.ConfusedGrin

I once won a raffle prize of a sort of clip thing you put on the back of your chair to hang your handbag on (who knew there was a need for such a thing ?) It remains in my 'things to be reraffled' along with an elderly faded candle and some grubby notepaper. I also have a frightening porcelain doll (I correctly guessed it's name).

I am willing to donate any or all of these items to the winner of the internet, except the doll, that will go to the loser of the internet.

Owlish refusing to let go of the parcel is by far the best way to play pass the parcel, you deserved the Ladybird book for sheer tenacity.

I won a thread yesterday (which was then deleted so my pinnacle moment has not been recorded for future generations to read in raptures). I got a cash prize.

KurriKurri · 02/10/2018 23:14

Winning a deleted thread does not count Shatners - give your cash prize to me.

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 02/10/2018 23:16

But I already bought a Freddo.

PickAChew · 02/10/2018 23:16

I'm so sorry the accolade I awarded you (are accolades awarded?) was deleted, Shatner

The OP of that threat was such an attention seeking twit, though, so it was well deserved.

ScrambledSmegs · 02/10/2018 23:20

Maybe - just maybe - you do actually win...the internet Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2018 23:20

I actually did win a thread once, the prize was an MN 'naice coffee' mug.
It arrived with its handle broken, so it serves as a pencil pot.

Owlish · 02/10/2018 23:22

Thank you Kurri. I was certainly obstinate tenacious

StartingGrid · 02/10/2018 23:28

When these people aren't awarding random strangers ownership of the internet they're busy making memories and living their best lives...ugh

UnleashTheBulsara · 02/10/2018 23:37

I also have a frightening porcelain doll (I correctly guessed it's name)

Hamble Chucky...?

footballmum · 03/10/2018 06:39

I never win the thread. I also never get a “what footballmum said”. I’m very bitter about it.

UnleashTheBulsara · 03/10/2018 07:20

^ What footballmum said. And I'm more bitter than she is. And twisted. Bitter and twisted, I am.

(And also nosy, would like to know what Ladybird book Owlish "won" with her stubborn ways.)

Owlish · 03/10/2018 09:43

Bulsara, it was about birds, iirc. I had a bit of a collection, so I was very pleased with my tenacity.

footballmum · 04/10/2018 15:04

I’ve just spotted your response Unleash. Thank you!! You’ve made my little old day Grin

ARandomPoster · 04/10/2018 16:19

I won some books from Mumsnet a few years ago.

Does that mean I win the thread? Grin Grin Grin
