Scottish people please help me - supermarkets xmas eve

Xmas plans have just changed and we are flying into Inverness at 2pm on Christmas Eve. Then have a long drive to very remote place.

We will have no food/drinks/anything so will need to stock up - will the supermarkets in Inverness be open? Could we click and collect? WWYD?

TIA

I wouldn’t rely on any of these ideas. If your flight is delayed, even by an hour or two, you’ll have nothing. I’d pay for hold baggage, get a large suitcase, buy everything you need the day before (freeze what you need to freeze to keep it fresh), pack it carefully using bubble wrap and cool bage, and bring the lot with you.

Depending on where the remote place if you are heading to high highlands there is now an Asda in Tain which I’m pretty sure does click and collect

Where are you going after you leave Inverness. I live North of Inverness so may be able to help with advice on options.
I would do a click and collect from the tesco 20 minutes from the airport just as you arrive in Inverness.
Your order will be picked before your time slot so you should be ok for most things at that time earlier in the day the supermarkets usually aren’t as busy as you’d think on Christmas Eve. If I know where your going I might be able to point you to some shops on the road to pick up any missing bits.

The big Tesco superstore at Inches is the one that the deliveries come from I think .

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 03/10/2018 21:31

The one at the roundabout on the way in from airport is bigger than Inshes so probably a better bet if things ordered aren’t in stock to find an alternative. The retail park one does have a better selection.

If its anywhere near Tain there is a good asda for delivery or click and collect, sorry i dont know the hours

Veterinari · 03/10/2018 21:39

Have a look at the big Tesco at Raigmore, Inverness.

Otherwise book a Tesco delivery slot for your holiday rental on the afternoon of the 24th - Tesco deliveries are pretty reliable across the Highlands

Tbh I'm not sure how many holiday changeover cleaners you're going to get who would be willing to hang about waiting on a Tesco delivery on Xmas eve 😬😂

I like your click and collect idea - it's unlikely you'd be that delayed so as to miss the shop being open. I've missed my collect slot at the Inverness Tesco extra (eastfield)on the airport road more than once so collecting it late would be fine I'm sure in an emergency.
Are you heading north west?

WatsonCat · 03/10/2018 22:28

I'd do the same as someone else upthread has suggested and take everything with you in checked-in luggage.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 07/10/2018 16:15

Yes heading North West @allthesoddingdresses

Am too concerned to do another other than a click and collect I think. I spoke to the store and the click and collect's are sorted first thing so hopefully things will be available!

christmaschristmaschristmas Good plan, if memory serves me correctly I did a collect from that store last Xmas eve. I had allowed myself some time in case there was stuff missing from the order but was pleasantly surprised it was all there.
Tbh as long as you have "some"food, and are all together Christmas won't be ruined! You'll pass some petrol stations on your way out of Inverness (although probably only good for drinks, chocolate and tinsGrin)

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 07/10/2018 19:09

That's good. And did they say it would be OK if you were a bit late for your slot?
