How do you store trousers?

Hanging in a wardrobe? Folded on shelves? Something else?

At the moment mine are folded on shelves in a cupboard, but it’s not ideal. In fact, it’s a pain, because if I want a pair that are at the bottom I end up disturbing the pile on top, so it’s always a mess.

I’m moving into a new bedroom soon and will have the opportunity to completely rethink how I store my clothes - I’ll have a sort of dressing room with space for whatever chests of drawers/wardrobes/cupboards I want; so I’m keen to find a better way of doing things!

Mine are in a drawer side by side rather than one on top of each other. I believe it's a Marie kondo thing but I got it from a thread on here.

Mine are folded Kondo-Style in a shelf in my wardrobe.

The DC's school trousers are hung on trouser hangers in their wardrobes because they're too easy/silly to be trusted with a Kondo-style wardrobe.

What’s Kondo style?

I lie mine flat on the bed and fold them in half width-wise. Then you fold the crotch inwards part way, then fold the trouser leg into three sections. It's hard to explain but if you look on Youtube you can watch videos on how to fold clothing Kondo style that helps save space in your wardrobe.

Heuschrecke · 02/10/2018 13:58

Hung up, from the waist, on proper trouser hangers.

CherryBlossom23 · 02/10/2018 14:00

Mine are rolled and stored side by side in a drawer. That way I can see which are which and get to them easily and not wear the same 3 pairs all winter

Xiaoxiong · 02/10/2018 15:10

Mine are also folded Kondo style in a drawer so I can take any trousers out without disturbing the others (Like this: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/marie-kondo-and-the-art-of-folding-c2r6ql6rksb)

Why do I now feel unusual for hanging my trousers on a hanger?!! I thought this was normal Confused

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 02/10/2018 15:13

Trousers that crease are hung up. Jeans are rolled and stored vertically in drawers.

I have an Ikea Pax wardrobe, the taller one. Left has double hanging, right has a rail at the top then 3 drawers underneath. There’s a small shelf at the very top that fits storage boxes. The Pax range is great, very customisable.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 02/10/2018 15:23

I hang them on hangers in the wardrobe.

DP hangs them over the banister on the landing Hmm lazy bugger

Fold in half at the waist, bum out. Fold into thirds legways. On shelf or in drawer, depending on whose they are.

Heuschrecke · 02/10/2018 15:40

"Hung up, from the waist, on proper trouser hangers."

Actually, I should have elaborated. Jeans are hung up from the waist on proper clip hangers, but formal trousers are hung up from their hems on proper clip hangers. The formal trousers have their hems together so the hanger grips both legs - if that makes sense?!

This type of hanger!

Mine are on trouser hangers. Jeans and jeggings are folded on a shelf.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 02/10/2018 16:01

Jeans are folded on a shelf. Other trousers are hung with “clip” hangers either from the hems or from the waist depending on the style of trouser.

DHs trousers are all hung from the hems. DSs trousers are on a pull out trouser “rack”.

I’m lucky I have a lot of wardrobe space so nearly all my clothes are hung up.

Xiaoxiong · 02/10/2018 16:04

cakes you're not weird - I'd hang mine if I had the rail space, but I have a tiny rail and a giant underbed drawer. So the rail is for stuff that can't be folded like jackets, and everything else is folded and filed Kondo style.

MadMaryBoddington · 02/10/2018 18:24

Gosh lots of people doing the kondo thing. It must be good! I’ll try that out. In my old house I used to hang them on hangers like Heuschrecke, because I had a lot of wardrobe space, and not much drawer space. In this house it’s been the opposite. So up to now I’ve always been dictated to by what space was available. Now I’m getting to choose, the pressure is on to get it right!
