Eastenders producers must think we're daft

Keanu is 19 - no he's not, the actor who plays him is 25 if he's a day.

Hunter is 15 - as if. At least 21.

Bernadette's supposed to be 15. She's at least 20.

And the older the characters of Kathy and Ian get, the less plausible the mum/son relationship.

She came back last weeks episode, totally bizarre thing to do with a main character's actor.

It has always been the case that Kathy & Ian look too close in age to credibly be mother and son. I’m old enough to remember when Eastenders started. Gillian Taylforth was 29 at the time and looked like a model. She didn’t look remotely old enough to have a 16 year old son.

HelenaDove · 02/10/2018 00:39

"Gillian Taylforth was born on August 14, 1955 - she's 63"

Which makes her 30 in 1985 when it started and Ian was supposed to be 16 in 1985. Which would have made her 14 when Ian was born.

Not to mention Donna who she was supposed to have had before Ian Donna was the result of a rape (ive been watching the old episodes on Drama. She was/is too young to be playing his mum Always has been.

YY Bonnie She wasnt even 30 yet when it started.

I'm old enough to remember when it started too. As far as I remember, Ian, Sharon and Michelle Fowler were all in the same school year. The big storyline in the first year was Michelle being pregnant by Dirty Den, and having the baby when she was 16. The characters and the actors were all the same ages back then - so yes, the characters of Ian and Sharon would be 47 or 48 now.

There was a very lame storyline last year about Ian getting a cake for Kathy's 70th birthday - poor Gillian Taylforth.

Maybe back in the 80s it was easier to employ children to play children, less regulation on schooling while filming and chaperones and so on. There are very few genuine children and you barely see them - think Jack Branning has a cupboard where he keeps his. And the older "teens" like Bernadette, Keegan, Keanu, Tiffany, Rebecca are played by actors over the age of 18.

I always think parents are very young on TV shows- Broadchurch etc.
As if most people have children at 15. Hmm
