On oral antibiotics 3 times a day...

Yes.

I wouldn’t hesitate to keep her off if she still seems poorly tomorrow-it’s horrible feeling rough at school when you’re that little.
Most schools won’t give 3 x a day ABs as you can give them morning, 3pm ish and bedtime. Ours only give 4x per day ones at school.

Hopefully she’ll have perked up tomorrow.

@Passmethecrisps ah, yes that makes sense. There's definitely been no pattern to these illnesses, I certainly have no ulterior motives to be keeping her off school Grin

@mycheapshoes yes I suppose I could give the AB like that... she goes to bed at 7 though. Gets in from school around 3.40ish... that's not enough of a gap is it?
I guess I could wake her around 9ish for her last dose but I don't like to wake her if I can help it 🙈

It would depend entirely on how she is. How well she sleeps tonight will be an indicator. If she has a temp and is lethargic tomorrow morning, I would absolutely keep her off. She may get back to normal quicker if she is able to have a day of complete rest.

wineintowine · 01/10/2018 20:27

@BlueJava how do you send one twin to school and not the other? I mean logistically... do you rock up to school with both and just drop one off or do you have someone at home you can leave your DC with?

My DS is prone to ear infections, usually we are pretty quick at catching it so he usually goes to school after a day. But he had a really bad one the last 3 days at school before Christmas last year, he was vomiting, high temp everything. It subsided 2 days before Christmas but then he got Aussie flu 🤒

PattiStanger · 01/10/2018 21:15

Admittedly my experience is from my own children, friends and family and my time as a school governor so not scientific but ime it's not usual to have had a few days off when you've only been at school for around 20 days.

Obviously I don't know where you are and I do know Scottish children will have been back a lot longer so maybe spread over a longer time but schools are closely monitored on attendance and, as another poster has explained they are likely to want to follow up to see if there's any issue.

alwaysontimeneverlate · 01/10/2018 21:20

I'd keep her at home ear infections are the devils work.
My ds suffered when he was about that age and definitely wasn't fit for school.

Do what's right for her and don't worry about school.

Knittedfairies · 02/10/2018 11:31

@wineintowine schools are not obliged to give out medications; it is voluntary. It’s fine if it’s only one or two children but not if several parents send in a spoon and a sticky bottle.

wineintowine · 02/10/2018 11:52

@Knittedfairies thanks for the heads up!
She seemed too poorly for school today so I kept her home.
She was up several times throughout the night.
So I'll just have to hope the school is understanding.
