I have got a job interview to work on reception in a vets. I have done general reception, admin work before but does anyone have any idea of anything specific a vets will be looking for in a receptionist? I really really want this job!

Hi. I'm a practice manager of a vets and have hired many receptionists.

Reception is essentially an admin role. You need to be able to multi task. And be accurate. So you'll have to make appointments and look things up on the computer and also deal with interruptions like the phone ringing and people coming in. It can get extremely busy so you need to be able to stay calm and efficiently deal with what's going on without panicking or making mistakes.

It's a demanding job and can be stressful. People aren't always nice when worries about their sick pets. But you must always be professional.

You must also be friendly to clients and interested in their pets.

The job isn't particularly hands on so saying you love animals although is nice won't get you the job.

Having the experience and competencies will.
