Random question - have you heard of Folksy?

Just that really - trying to work out how well known it is.

If you've shopped there, what do you think?

If you're a shop owner, how do you find it?

If you've never heard of it, have you heard of Etsy?

Thanks Smile

Wow justpopping definitely more talented than me Grin

I think you're right anchor Folksy hasn't changed much. But I think Etsy is just too big of a beast for me to tame HmmGrin

I have heard of it and have bought from all 3 - Etsy, Folksy and NOTHS.
The reason I started using Folksy was I wanted UK sellers only but the choice isn’t as good as Etsy.
I find Etsy a bit big lately with lots of stuff that’s not really what I would call craft or art or even handmade.... so takes longer to find the nice things.
NOTHS I get a bit fed up how everything has to be personalised! It’s hard to find non-personalised things!

HormoanalGrumblebum · 01/10/2018 21:23

hestia I have the same problems with Etsy too. NOTHS isn't an option for me, so I'm currently trying to decide whether Folksy is worth an investment.

You've all been very helpful with that decision. Thank you.

I heard of folksy before I heard of etsy.

Have bought from both.

Mainly etsy as the quality of items was more consistent. Sadly, I don't think that's true anymore, there is a lot of rubbish on there these days. Present company excepted. Wink

Yes, I know the founder, another friend used to work for them

SnailMailFan · 02/10/2018 07:08

I’ve bought from Folksy in the past and regularly buy from Etsy and have a shop. I also sell via Facebook and eBay.

I was under the impression that Folksy had had its day,and had no traffic, but I have no reason for thinking this. I currently only sell to the U.K. on Etsy, so Folksy might suit me.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

spiderlight · 02/10/2018 08:50

Yes - I've heard of it and used it lots.

Notquiteagandt · 02/10/2018 09:48

I had no idea folksy was still around. I used it about 15 yrs ago but then ashumed perhaps rather wrongly that it was no longer a thing due to etsy coming about.

Putinka · 02/10/2018 11:33

I used to browse/buy regularly but when I looked at my account (had to reset my password, forgotten due to lack of use), I haven't bought anything on Folksy in the past 3 years.

I placed lots of orders when I was using the site regularly, but at the time, there were more badly-made items than I ever noticed on Etsy. (I know Etsy had its fair share too - remember Regretsy?)

I enjoyed reading the Folksy discussion boards but the fact that there were so many "Why do I never sell anything?" threads made me wonder if I was occasionally buying out of pity and guilt that I prefer Etsy!

The look of Folksy has changed over the years and it's far more professional and attractive now but I don't know how much business you'd get.

KathDayKnight50 · 02/10/2018 11:35

I've heard it used as an adjective, but did not know it was a shop.

spugzbunny · 02/10/2018 11:38

I thought folksy started as a UK version of Etsy. Once Etsy became more international, I thought folksy died out so to be honest I actually thought it wasn't on existence any more. I used to buy from it but haven't in many years for that reason!

HormoanalGrumblebum · 02/10/2018 16:57

Thank you Snail maybe I'll bump into you on Folksy someday Grin

It's very interesting to learn that of those who had used it in the past, many didn't realise it was still around.

I never occurred to me that customers read the Folksy discussinon boards Putinka

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it.

I buy from both. More often from Etsy as it has a greater selection of crafts, plus I buy quite a bit of vintage homewares (that Folksy doesn't do). So prob 3 items from Etsy

origamiwarrior · 02/10/2018 21:20

Soz, posted too soon!

Prob 3 items from Etsy for every one I get from folksy. But I check both as some sellers are on both.

Folksy tends to be cheaper, and the quality not as good (that's my perception). In some ways I prefer buying from folksy as you don't have to keep limiting search to UK, and they don't have the bloody sponsored items (alwYs US based, even when youve limited search to UK!) every other row. But the search engine on folksy isn't as good.
