Need something with support and preferably a sole so I can take the rubbish out in them....

My own experience is not to wear any footwear without a back. I wear slipper socks and put shoes on to go outside. Every time i forget and wear mule type slippers i get a recurrance.

glamorousgrandmother · 02/10/2018 07:42

I have just got a pair of Mahabis which are comfortable with a Boots orthotic inside. You can buy ones with an outdoor sole.
I have had PF for over a year now and haven't sorted the wellie problem yet. Winter shoes are easier than summer though, sandals were a problem.

Lonecatwithkitten · 02/10/2018 07:51

I may have spelt orthotist incorrectly he is a consultant who specialises in orthotics and prosthetics, he has a podiatry degrees, a masters in bio mechanical engineering and a PhD in orthotics/prosthetics. I was referred not to podiatry, but direct to orthotics.

For all of you PF sufferers - you might already do this but my podiatrist showed me this and it really helps - sit on a chair and put one foot up on th opposite knee. Pull back the big toe on the raised foot. Feel along the arch of your foot and there is a tendon - an be really tight with PF. Massage this out a few times a day. It really makes a difference for me.

When mine is bad I also do stretches in bed before I get up. Flexing my feet, stretching out the calves, sit in the side of the bed and do ankle rotations and the massage described above.

Vionic shoes and inserts are very good. I think it’s a big game of trial and error as what works for one won’t work so well for another.

Interested in the ASICs recommendation. Will have a look at those next time I replace my trainers.

No no no to memory foam

Oofos sliders. Saw them recommended on here and bought dh them. World of difference and they're rubber so can go outside.

CheekyRedhead · 02/10/2018 08:02

In a sufferer but no current flare up,last time I had it I bought one of those boots in bed. Ugly as he'll but helped resolve my pf quicker than previous flare ups. After getting arch pain that's not of I've just been told I have low arches. My podiatrist advised fit flops, hotter shoes that have an arc h uplift in or proper running trainers - nine that I find comfy have too flat a sole. MY issue is all the shoes are really ugly and I feel self conscious in them at work so any stylish work show recommendations would be good.
For trips to the bin I have some sliders I bought from next. The arch support is there are they look good too

Wondering if the Ugg ones would work.

The sheepskin is very deep and I find comfy amd supportive, though don't suffer from plantar fasciitis.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/10/2018 08:06

Strive.

Plenty of arch support, cosy sheepskin lining, proper sole for doing the bins.

bluestarthread · 02/10/2018 08:29

Haflinger. I got a pair when recovering from a foot op. Firm sole, wool felt top, mould to your foot.
Lots of good examples at this site:

I wear Skechers Go Walks (not the trainer type) all year round indoors. Obviously suitable for going out in too. So comfortable, can be worn with fluffy socks for warmth if need be.

PeridotCricket · 02/10/2018 08:34

Ooh the strive look good. I was blanching at £100 for Birkenstock so the look cheap in comparison...

Not sure Uggs would work aren't they too flat? Skechers don't work for me either, I need a lot of arch support. Now the weather is cooler I can wear Hotter shoes or boots plus an orthotic outdoors. In the summer I wore Hotter trainers + orthotic but also spent £70 on Merrill walking sandals which were OK but not brilliant. I have loads of shoes in my wardrobe which I can't wear at the moment so I hope it goes away soon.

PeridotCricket · 02/10/2018 10:02

Sketchers made mine much much worse. All that worked for me was orthotic insoles in walking boots. It's much better now but I need arch support.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 02/10/2018 10:06

You need the same kind of orthotics that you're using during the day and a slipper deep enough to accomodate them.

Shuropody or CosyFeet.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/10/2018 13:35

Re- Strive, they dont do it every year, but they sometimes do Black Friday sales. I got 2 pairs of £70 shoes for £25 each

HironsBirons · 02/10/2018 13:43

I bought Ugg slippers and mine is so so much better.

Ariela · 02/10/2018 13:53

@MiladyMilord
My big issue is wellies sad I have a horse and need waterproof boots but my (very expensive) wellies are seriously agonising even with insoles in. Desperately need to find an alternative before winter hits!!

I use these with cheapie Boots heel inserts. The fact the laces do up tightly and support the whole ankle makes all the difference. They're waterproof too and have the bonus 500kg of horse can stand on them and I don't feel it!
