Lakeland heated airer

Have you got one? How long does it take to dry a load of washing? And do you leave it on overnight/while you're out?

We used to have one ... but then got a dehumidifier which works much better. Bit more than the airer, but keeps the whole house fresh.

Bear in mind the airer works by putting the damp from the clothes into the air, which can be a problem in winter when all the windows are shut.

I have one. The length of time it takes will depend on how much you put on it, how you stack it on, how thick it is and whether you have a cover.

I leave it on overnight, move the position of the stuff in the morning and leave it on until it is completely dry, the bottom shelf takes longer to dry as it is colder, top is quicker. I use it for bedding, shirts, tea towels and boxers mostly so need to get the thick bits dry, therefore it is on for probably a night, and half a day per load. I used to put the bedding over the top as I didn't have a cover, it works but the edges didn't dry well so had to keep moving it. With a cover I also put things on top of the cover and they dry too.

I am not mad about the thing as it is flimsy and you have to be careful not to lean on it as the plastic clips that hold the shelves will snap, it wobbles, and it gets in the way but it keeps the room warm overnight.

We had one and then got a dehumidifier too. With both on the washing was dry overnight. Without the dehumidifier, if the rack was full, it was probably at least a whole day. I'd invest in both if you don't have a tumble dryer.

What2donow4 · 01/10/2018 21:09

What sort of dehumidifier have you got please, DGRossetti and dotdashdot?

LindaFromMCC · 01/10/2018 21:14

I love mine, and said to DP the other day that if it ever broke it would be as much a priority to replace as the washing machine Blush
Also got a dehumidifier and would recommend both. Now I've got the cover it takes much less time to dry than when I just used to pop a sheet over the top, so today it took a couple of hours to do a small load. Depends whether it's cold and I think it helps we have ours in quite a confined space, but I do leave it on overnight and it's usually all done (and all toasty) in the morning.

FlamingJuno · 01/10/2018 21:16

I love mine. I throw a sheet over it, leave it overnight, pretty much everything dries in that time. Added bonus it makes the room nice and warm. Wouldn't be without it.

dotdashdot · 02/10/2018 16:53

We had an ecoair dc12

DGRossetti · 02/10/2018 16:58

We have one of these

www.ebac.com/dehumidifiers/2650e-18-litre-white-dehumidifier-dd695wh-gb

they're a UK firm, and ours got fixed after 4 years use under their 5-year guarantee (they paid to collect and deliver it).

Really cannot fault them. DW uses the water (it's deionized apparently) to water plants, and if you iron, it's good for that.

Buffymum · 02/10/2018 16:59

Had mine a few years now and love it . Have the cover too . We have trickle vents on windows which are always open so no prob with No problem with damp .

akitas2 · 02/10/2018 16:59

We bought one with a cover on Saturday. Tried it this morning and put a decent amount of washing on the rails, and it dried everything brilliantly, pretty quickly. We had one a few years back but didn't have the cover. We sent it back as it only seemed to dry the bits where it touched. Anyway, We'd heard rave reviews about using the drier with a cover and thought we'd give it another go. Really the cover has made such a difference.

DGRossetti · 02/10/2018 17:08

Really the cover has made such a difference.

We kept an old unfitted base sheet for a cover ...

akitas2 · 02/10/2018 17:54

I think a quilt cover or sheet will do the trick as you say. The cover gives a good "all round seal", that's probably the only difference.

Beaverhausen · 02/10/2018 18:03

I have. If you put the cover on and it is full of clothes, about 6hrs.

IloveJudgeJudy · 02/10/2018 18:10

I've had one for a couple of months now. DC )adult) were sceptical, but are converted. You do have to hang your clothes carefully to get the best results. DH wasn't convinced at all until I showed him how to hang his stuff.

KatnissMellark · 03/10/2018 22:23

Any tips on hanging? We've got the cover ana it's still taking an age to dry...

I like mine and it works well (I put a sheet over the top) but it's a pain to store because it is big even when folded.

My cat also loves it and is currently sleeping under it Smile
