Holidays after Brexit why so expensive if no one is booking due to uncertainty?

Looking at holidays for next year ( although I'm not booking until after Brexit until we know about flights and airspace etc and the fact travel agents have included get out clauses about Brexit.) and wondering if no one is booking why are the holidays so expensive as surely the travel agents are taking a hit and not selling as many holidays due to the uncertainty?
I would have thought they would be advertising them as cheap as possible to sell them especially if they have get out clauses if they can't deliver after Brexit?

At a guess

  • a lot of people still aren't worried about brexit
  • European resorts aren't only visited by British people - resorts can sell rooms to Germans or Dutch tourists instead rather than dropping prices
  • UK travel companies have raised their prices to offset an expected decline in Sterling

It's not just British people booking holidays.

HirplesWithHaggis · 30/09/2018 20:26

They may be pricing higher to allow for an anticipated drop in the £/€ exchange rate after Brexit.

ForalltheSaints · 30/09/2018 20:28

Brexit will be used as an excuse to raise prices. This is just the start.

DaisyLand · 30/09/2018 20:29

I don’t think it’s to do with Brexit. I have found them more expensive than other years in easter time but so it’s for my friend who is looking for the same time and lives In an European country so not affected by Brexit. Any other time of the year im finding the prices as affordable as any other years

Scatteredthoughtss · 30/09/2018 20:29

I agree, I think it's an exchange rate issue, they think the pound is going to drop.

DaisyLand · 30/09/2018 20:30

Btw there is many people booking holidays for 2019, I’ve seen it mentioned many threads

nicebitofquiche · 30/09/2018 20:32

I've got holidays booked for after brexit. Didn't notice any difference in price when booking. One of them is going to same place we go every year and it cost the same as last year.

NoLogicInThis · 30/09/2018 20:48

Really I've seen a huge increase in prices.
Where are you going ?

I’ve been searching spain (only flight) and Mexico all inclusive and as mentioned same price as 2018.

nicebitofquiche · 30/09/2018 21:39

Spain for both holidays. Both package deals. One in school holidays and one not. It's the one not in school holidays that's the same. The other place I've never to so can't compare price

carrie74 · 01/10/2018 09:58

I've booked post-Brexit holidays (flights only at this stage). I haven't noticed price differences, however, the exchange rate (both € and $) are pretty rubbish at the moment, so I've noticed accommodation costs (usually paid for in home currency) are higher than previous years.
