A shrink wrapped uncooked chicken dated 8th Oct

If you opened the packaging tomorrow & wrapped it in cling film when is the latest you would cook it?

Why would you open the packet? Keep it in the packet!

Whenever I’ve bought something shrink wrapped once I’ve opened the packaging I’ve always assumed that it starts to deteriorate & usually I’d then use it in the next day or so.

I wouldn’t normally unpackaged it on Monday & cook it on Thursday which is what Ds is being asked to do

Olenna - Ds has to take it to school tomorrow where he will be taught to de-bone & fillet it. They will then make chicken goujons on Thursday.

I can’t understsnd why they aren’t doing it over two consecutive days (Food Tech is Mon, Thurs & Fri)

I'd say that if it is kept at the appropriate temperature then it should theoretically be good until the best before date, unless it was a fully sealed package, like vacuum packed or something.

But having said that, I just wouldn't open it until I needed to use it.

treaclesoda · 30/09/2018 15:46

Ah, sorry. I see you have explained why it is being opened in advance...

AlexanderHamilton · 30/09/2018 15:49

I guess I’m paranoid about chicken had food poisoning once from under cooked drumsticks at a wedding.

Strange school. As you said, why not over 2 consecutive days? Confused

OlennasWimple · 30/09/2018 16:26

Presumably they can't do it on consecutive days because that's not how their lessons are timetabled?

Given that the chicken has a use by date of 8 Oct, I'd be relaxed about what they are doing. And goujons are easy to cook all the way through, as they are thin, unlike a drumstick where you have to balance burning / drying out one bit against the other end being raw in the middle

AlexanderHamilton · 30/09/2018 16:56

As I said above- the lessons are timetabled Monday, Thursday & Friday.

I would be fine with that. It's only three days, as long as the chickens in date it's okay. I've done that lots of times at home and it's always been.

Are the lessons all double periods? Or is the Friday a single lesson? They will probably need a double lesson to make the goujons.

AlexanderHamilton · 30/09/2018 17:53

All gcse lessons are the same length.
