Just curious as to what other people use there credit card for and if you pay it of in full? We have a 10k limit and owe about 3k I've only ever used it for expensive stuff really like DD pushchair and a few treats for myself.

I have one that I use for day to day spends / food shopping etc. I pay it off in full each month and never let the balance go above what I can afford to pay.

Also a 0% card that big expenses go on and for any emergencies. I pay a percentage off each month to ensure it will be clear by the end of the 0% offer. Once it ends I'll apply for another.

Everything, and I pay it off in full every month. It’s a John Lewis card, which earns points for every £ spent. The points are redeemed for JL /Waitrose vouchers several times a year. I probably get £100 of vouchers a year.

OvO · 30/09/2018 16:59

I don’t have one.

I sometimes think I should get one and make sure to pay it off ASAP just to help my credit rating but I’m not sure I’d even get accepted for one! My rating is terrible because I have no debts so I can’t get cedit because I’m too good at not being in debt. Madness 😂

Use it for everything and pay in full each month - I get rewards in the form of vouchers for lots of high street stores which I save up and use for Christmas presents and January sale shopping.

DerelictWreck · 30/09/2018 17:02

Have a John Lewis one. Use it for absolutely everything and pay off in full each month. Gets me about £100 in John Lewis/Waitrose vouchers a year

Reading through all the replies from people like me who pay off their balances in full & get cash back, it makes you realise how much profit the card companies must make from people who pay them lots of interest. And that those people indirectly subsidise the lifestyles of the financially savvy middle classes......

I’ve only got one that I rarely use. It has a 7K credit limit that keeps on going up and up, when I applied for it I was given a 3K limit.
I’ve never been halfway to the limit, it scares me a bit really.
It’s not real money and I’m not very good at checking what money I’ve got in different accounts!
I use it to book flights/holiday accommodation etc and then transfer money straight across to pay it off but that’s about it.

pumkinspicetime · 30/09/2018 18:08

Everything, pay it off in full each month and use the points to buy things like face creams, crockery sets, all sorts.

safariboot · 30/09/2018 18:15

Holiday expenses. I did a money transfer for my holiday earlier this year and combined with other stuff I only got that paid off in August.

Car insurance. I reckon it's cheaper to put it on the CC and clear it in a few months rather than pay monthly for the insurance.

Major purchases, for the protection.

The odd thing that gets a cashback offer. But that tends to be cafes and restaurants and I don't eat out too often.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 30/09/2018 18:17

Everything possible
Pay it off in full each month
Get john lewis vouchers

If I couldn't pay it off in full every month I would not do this

DelurkingAJ · 30/09/2018 18:17

Pretty much everything. Partnership card so get John Lewis vouchers which I use for Xmas presents etc.

DelurkingAJ · 30/09/2018 18:17

Oh yes, pay in full every month.

ittooshallpass · 30/09/2018 18:39

Use it for everything and pay off each month. Get cash back every month, and M&S vouchers. Love getting freebies with the money and vouchers I receive for spending what I would have spent anyway!

Caroian · 30/09/2018 18:43

We also have a BA card and put everything on it (literally everything, especially since contactless became a thing - I've been known to pay for things costing less than a pound!) and pay it off in full every month. It gives us our flight upgrades and virtually free flights to Europe each year.

We also have a foreign fee free card. This also used to be an Amex but has just changed to a MC, so contemplating finally getting rid of our Partnership Card - which used to be our main one until we realised Avios were more valuable to us than the JL vouchers.

As a side note, I actually find it easier to keep track of spending using a CC than a debit card. The transactions are all listed in the app, and do not need to be sorted from the general incomings and outgoings in our current account. If you are on a tight budget then you can move all money not needed to cover Direct Debit bills etc in to separate savings account - very easy then to check that you are not spending more on the CC than you have in that account. And if you are savvy, you can take advantage of the maximum interest free period before paying by rotating through different cards. (I don't do any of this now, but did when I was newly qualified and struggling much more financially).

FishesThatFly · 30/09/2018 18:52

Tesco CC. Use it for everything so l get the reward points but l pay it off in full each month

gamerwidow · 30/09/2018 18:56

I don’t really use it for anything now the you get the same protection on Debit cards. I used to use it for big purchases for the extra protection and then pay it back straightaway.
They’re a really expensive way of borrowing money due to the ridiculously high interest rates.

GandolfBold · 30/09/2018 18:57

Put shopping/ fuel on and pay it back every month. Have a BA Amex so save the airmiles

greathat · 30/09/2018 18:57

Use it for everything. Paid off in full every month by direct debit. It's a cashback card so free money

AnneElliott · 30/09/2018 19:52

Also use a BA Amex card and pay it off every month. Love collection Avios. I also have a M&S card as I buy a lot of stuff from them.
