Anyone done this? Currently it's a coal fire that heats the radiators. we have a back up water heater. Just wondering how much it's going to cost?

They are very random posts!

We did this in May - moved into a house with coal fired central heating in February when it snowed and it was freezing.

We first had to get mains gas which we were able to do as another neighbour had organised it a couple of years ago. We then had to get it connected to our house which was about £750. Then had new boiler and some extra radiators fitted and also a new shower. Cost about £4,500 for that.

That sounds round about what I was expecting I'm budgeting for £5000 I know neighbours have gas

I'd get a few firms to give you quotes.

We have a gas combi/ condensing type boiler with a programmable thermostat/ timer. Love it.

The alternatives to gas are
Oil fired central heating, means a tank in the garden. Can be combi type boiler with hot water on demand, central heating on timer/thermostat. Shouldn't need hot water tank.
LPG either means bottled gas( probably expensive) or a tank in the garden again combi type boiler without need for hot water tank.
I know people who have the above two types of central heating but dont know their finances and therefore comparative costs
Electric panel radiators, I believe they can be centrally controlled these days.
Electric wet heating. A combi type boiler but runs on electric rather than gas.

Up where I live it's pretty much just two companies I can go to so will see if I can play them off each other 😂 and get a better price. I'm meaning towards a combi boiler

We have a combi boiler. The British Gas quote was about twice the price and would have involved a not combi boiler in the attic and needing scaffolding and potentially asbestos treatment (not included in cost).

If you’re going to have mains gas then start the process to get that done as having the pipe and meter fitted had a waiting list of over two months (which wasn’t what we wanted in February!)
