Unsure if I've posted in the correct topic so let me know if there's any other topic I can post to..

Basically the downstairs of my house is absolutely freezing cold, no matter whether the heating is on or not. The entire downstairs is laminate flooring. We did have someone out to look at the front door as it didn't seem to be closing properly (front door is in living room).. I usually put the heating on 23 and it does warm up upstairs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Get the front door fixed, get a draught excluder, rug and decent curtain for door/windows.

Maybe invest in a stand alone fire if you can, if not then we have blankets in the living room to grab if needed.

Do you have open stairs leading off the lounge? We had that and all the heat went upstairs. We've built a wall and made a proper hallway now, makes a huge difference.

I have the same layout except I have carpets

But one thing I would recommend is thermal curtains. They really do make a difference.

And also a stiff letterbox with a 'brush' on it. The bottom of my front door also has a thin line of 'brush' and it really helps to keep the cold out.

Do you have a curtain over your front door? That & a draft excluder will probably help.

Door curtain with secondary (ie not attached) liner

Secondary liner on curtains (even if they are 'lined')

Heating constantly on low (too expensive?)

Rugs including runners

Thanks guys for all of your suggestions. My front door is fixed, we thought that would have been the problem but no change since having it fixed. I didn't know you could get thermal curtains so will definitely have a look at those! We have a 7 month old and it has been okay so far with the warm weather but now worrying about autumn/winter. Will get some fraught excluders too!

Also yes we do have open stairs in the living room @NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes .. I love them but think that could be the problem, there is no heating issue upstairs! Sad

Before we remodelled this house, (complete renovation of everything!) we had a calor gas log burner look- alike fire in the lounge. My God that threw out some heat, and we rarely needed heating on upstairs. If no heating was on, the kitchen and dining room were cold but we usually had one or the other on, heating wise, IYSWIM. Any way to block off the stairs?

Insulated stud wall enclosing the stairs shouldn't be too expensive and will make a big difference.
