£700 Sad

Fstar · 29/09/2018 21:02

Used to be 20 a month but the older he got the more crazy the price was. Last quote was over 600 a year somi stopped buyjng it and just pay for treatment he needs. The 70 excess was always too high so had to pay most vet bills anyway

Fireinthegrate · 29/09/2018 21:02

Approx £35-£40 per month
Can depend on breed, age etc, o get a quote from everal different providers

Pusheenicorn · 29/09/2018 21:02

I have two and its £960 Sad

It was only about £200 a year until one of them needed a massive leg operation and its gone up every year since

SoyDora · 29/09/2018 21:02

Ours is approx £420 for the year

Medium-Large sized dog (He's a about 30kg cross breed) I have just taken out new "for life" insurance, so if he was diagnosed with something now his bills would be covered for life (not sure the other types of insurace are worth it if they only cover the first year tbh). It's £20 a month and I got £40 cashback through top cashback. If allis well ina year I will compare prices again and go for the cheapest.

So in answer, £240 a year.

MellyPapa · 29/09/2018 21:05

Oh and he's 4 btw :)

Lioness82 · 29/09/2018 21:06

£804.

Small breed, 12 years old. Started at £8 a month when he was 6weeks old.

£200 excess and 20% co-pay on vet bills too. He has a covered for life policy, but wouldn't get it again if I moved the policy.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 29/09/2018 21:07

3 year old Cav, just gone with John Lewis insurance, just over £300. It'll get to a point in a few years where it's just not worth it.

joystir59 · 29/09/2018 21:10

£320 for a 5 yr old JRT, no claims as yet, £160 excess

secretnutter · 29/09/2018 21:10

For mine it's £16 a month each, both large crossbreeds, neutered and microchipped. So just shy of £200/year/dog.

joystir59 · 29/09/2018 21:10

That is with Tesco, life cover

Redpriestandmozart · 29/09/2018 21:27

We pay £41 per month for an 8 year old standard poodle who is on two medications for life for two different conditions and just added ear problems. We use Petplan.

LardLizard · 30/09/2018 07:56

Wow its not cheap is it

£240 for a 25kg mixed breed. I don’t even really think about that as a big cost tbh - nice food, treats, equipment, injections and other not-covered medical stuff...that’s what really adds up!

Ariela · 30/09/2018 08:10

Dogs Trust membership: £25/year includes 3rd party liability cover.
We do not insure for vets fees. If you immediately say not insured they advise less expensive treatments. So far been lucky and not had anything costly (10 years), but both have been rescues.

whiteroseredrose · 30/09/2018 08:13

We put money into a savings account every month and have done since DDog was a puppy. When we brought him home we went straight to the vet who 'thought' he heard a heart murmur so the monthly cost shot up. The money is for emergencies only not regular check ups.

(I've asked every other vet for the past 10 years if they can hear a murmur but they can't).

KevinTheYuccaPlant · 30/09/2018 09:11

£16.50 a month which covers a 7-y-o cocker spaniel for everything, but max 1 year per condition, and a 2-y-o border collie for 3rd party liability and accident only - he's a working sheepdog and they're aware that if we're moving sheep he'll be off-lead on a public road. That's More Than, but we live in a remote area with limited vet facilities, so I suspect we have slightly lower premiums because of that, as treatment options would be limited for anything complex.
