Last week I made a beef Bourguignon in the slow cooker with Ox Cheeks. I served with a side of bone marrow (& veg) .
It was the best Bourguignon ever. The cheeks were so cheap ! £6.50 and served 6.

No, I haven't, I've never seen it either but I wonder if it's now called something different?
Lots of the old cheap cuts have got trendy and aren't so cheap anymore.
Pork belly is much more expensive than it used to be, ditto brisket.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/09/2018 21:36

Morrison's usually have turkey drumsticks.
They are great for making stock and the meat for curry.

LARLARLAND · 29/09/2018 21:36

Scrap end of neck is delicious in a hot pot. Fry onions and brown the meat. Add carrots, potatoes, rosemary and lamb stock. I stick it in for about 11/2 to 2 hours at about 180 degrees.

Shin is pretty expensive near me.

I bloody love a chicken heart. They eat them in Brazil a lot. Butcher happy to provide.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 29/09/2018 21:40

Turkey drumsticks are awesome!

Dinosaur drumsticks I tell DS Grin. They're huge.

User5trillion · 29/09/2018 21:46

I love all the tough fatty bits of meat, given a good long slow cooking they turn into something amazing. Now I find they aren't that cheap anymore. I made a great beef stew with shin of beef, yesterday and had it for dinner this evening.

In the winter I regularly make.oxtail and horseradish soup, stock from bones, hfw has a great scrag of lamb recipe - greek lamb -stunning!

Not moved by hearts, kidneys or liver. I much prefer breast of lamb, bone in brisket, belly pork to any of the leaner cuts.

Around here oxtail is £6, 1kg shin of beef £8, rolled breast of lamb £5 (small!) My butcher even charges me for chicken bones. We only eat red meat in the winter and I am always surprised by how expensive it is.

Snog · 29/09/2018 21:50

LOVE oxtail stew but is super expensive at my butchers

TheGonnagle · 29/09/2018 21:50

If you marinade skirt in citrus for half an hour then bash it thin before you cook it fast and hot it makes amazing steak. We use skirt for fajitas.
Also ox cheek for mussaman curry and chicken livers in tikka masala. Delicious!

CakeNinja · 29/09/2018 21:51

I bought a kilo of shin for tomorrows beef stew - cost me £19 - definitely not a cheap cut!
Love it though, and brisket/skirt for a chilli. Bought ox cheeks and thought they tasted a bit facey Grin

randomwoman123 · 29/09/2018 22:01

Thank you larlarland for the recipe! Will try. Where do you get it?

randomwoman123 · 29/09/2018 22:04

I will definitely be trying beef skirt in all the combinations suggested here. Yum!
Not the giblety bits though. Husband loves them but despite my best intentions I just can't stomach the idea...

This recipe for lamb neck is a good one and a winter staple in this house.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 30/09/2018 20:04

Pork cheeks, had them at a pub. Bloody lovely, tender and full of flavour. My butcher sells them (you need to ask for them), they are great braised.

picklemepopcorn · 30/09/2018 21:52

Where do you get cheap cuts? I don't find the supermarket sells them cheaply.

theoldtrout01876 · 01/10/2018 01:10

Stuff the lamb hearts with sausage meat. Wrap each one in a slice of bacon and cook long and slow in red wine, a shit ton of garlic and rosemary. Grin

HeAteAFatball · 01/10/2018 01:32

Nocado Morrisons near me sells pig's trotters.

Cow Foot Stew with rice and peas. Delish.

Chicken necks are lovely stir fried, as is ox or lamb's liver. I use ginger, onion, garlic and cracked black pepper.

HeAteAFatball · 01/10/2018 01:33

picklemepopcorn Morrisons is great for these kinds of cuts.

RamblinRosie · 01/10/2018 01:57

Pigeon breasts, season and fry, 2 mins each side, rest for 10 mins. Make sure to check for shot before cooking.

Delicious, taste like steak.

Ditto pheasant breasts, they also go great as a replacement for chicken in a curry.

Echo comments about skirt steak and beef cheeks, also ox/beef kidneys.

I also adore sweetbreads.

LARLARLAND · 01/10/2018 08:58

Yes, Morrison's and your local butcher will probably stock these cuts of meat.
