Anyone else feel rotten after a flu jab?

Sparrowlegs248 · 28/09/2018 21:08

I have one every year and have done for a long time. 2 reasons, I work for local government and they like to avoid us being off sick, and I have other health issues.

In the approx 16 years of having it, I have never felt so awful as I do now. Had it Thursday. Had a really sore throat last night which I still have along with swollen glands, bunged up nose, and my head feels like it might implode. I could go to sleep now, which I will shortly. Is it just me or has everyone/others been Affected?

Same op

Had it earlier this week and headache and stuffy nose

I'm self medicating with wine

Sparrowlegs248 · 28/09/2018 21:12

I feel too awful to drink. There's wine in the fridge and I can't face it. Plus the Dcs will be up at 6.

I had mine on Tuesday and have had a sore throat since Tuesday night. I feel really tired and now have a cough, but not much of one. Not unwell enough to miss work, just one degree under.
My Dad has a cold though so not sure if it is due to the flu jab or I’m getting his cold.
Hope you feel better

Yea, but only on the day of and the morning after, so I have mine on a Saturday as I pay to have them at a chemist (not eligible on the NHS).

Ilovewheelychairs · 28/09/2018 21:13

I actually felt lots better in myself than I did last year; felt really poorly in same way you describe last year. However, I had a massive reaction at the injection site this time. Huge raised, hot, red lump that was incredibly sore for several days. Has only just settled down completely today and I had the injection on Saturday.

Really hope you feel better soon. Hopefully it is a side effect and will settle down quickly. Paracetamol and ibuprofen with fluids!

Si1ver · 28/09/2018 21:16

Oh god yes. I had my whooping cough and flu jabs on Wednesday and I feel like shit. All my joints ache, my hands hurt and I've got a temperature. I cried in the car today because I couldn't cope.

Sparrowlegs248 · 28/09/2018 21:18

I've only got paracetamol so having that with a glass of water, then off to bed with a ginger beer. (I know I'm wake up coughing)

The one year I didn't have the flu jab was because I was off sick with flu (e have them at work) . I had 3 weeks off, went back for a week then another 2 weeks off! It was shocking!

I feel v lucky. I have one at Boots every year and have no ill effects at all except for a slightly achy arm for an hour or so.

I am hoping it does the trick too because there's a lot of coughing and nose blowing going on at work.

Sparrowlegs248 · 28/09/2018 21:18

Oh no Si1ver are you preggers too? Good God, I feel for you!

shallen · 28/09/2018 21:31

Oh no! I have mine in the morning and am preggo so not much I can take if I start to feel like shite!

Hope you feel better soon.

MrsEricBana · 28/09/2018 21:35

It is not a live vaccine so no one should get flu from it but I had very sore arm for couple of days and ds had his yesterday and is feeling very achey today. Still 100 times better than getting flu though. Hope you feel better soon.

SpoonBlender · 28/09/2018 21:37

Last couple of years I felt mildly flu-ey the day after, but this year just an upper arm bruise and nothing more. The "read this first" sheet for ours did say "you may get mild symptoms for a day or two".

MiddlingMum · 28/09/2018 22:05

I know several people who have felt a bit ill after their jab this season. It seems to last for about 24 hours, so I guess it's better than real flu for a week or more. I just got a bruised arm, nothing else.

Si1ver · 28/09/2018 22:07

@Nottalotta yes, 23 weeks. I thought I was only having the WC jab on Wednesday but they sprang the flu one on me too. I'd have scheduled it for a Friday afternoon otherwise so I'd have a couple of days to get back on my feet.

BG2015 · 28/09/2018 22:10

I has mine on Saturday and felt rotten by Monday with headache, sore throat and bunged up nose. The injection site was also very sore.

It seemed to last 24 hours or so but still blowing my nose today.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/09/2018 22:12

I stopped having them because I always felt like shit afterwards, and they didn't even stop me getting flu (I tend to get a bad one every 7 to 10 years whether or not I have the jab).

QueenOfMyWorld · 28/09/2018 22:13

I used to be a gp receptionist and we had to advise patients that it's usual fo feel off it for a day or 2 even though it's not a live vaccine hth

Whirlygigwendy · 28/09/2018 22:26

I used to work for a GP practice, thus had the flu jab. Never felt so ill in years!! Some of the nurses there would not have it, as they knew too well possible side affects. I will not have it now, even though I’m insulin resistant.

carrie74 · 28/09/2018 22:41

Hope you feel better soon. I had mine on Monday, no side effects, just a sore arm for a day or so. I've never had a reaction luckily.

Ollivander84 · 28/09/2018 22:41

Feel crap this year. Arm is still sore, warm and a lump on it

Ollivander84 · 28/09/2018 22:43

Although I did have to inject my bone marrow stimulant too on the same day which joyfully gives you “bone pain and flu like symptoms” which translates to not being able to stand the duvet touching you and feeling like you’ve been run over

Enervator · 28/09/2018 22:57

I was pretty low for a couple of weeks last year. But not as bad as flu, so back for this year's jab on Monday.

Rebecca36 · 28/09/2018 23:11

My husband had one this morning. He has felt achey and hot late afternoon onwards, currently asleep. That's quite normal and doesn't last long. Drink lots of water, take pain killers.

eelbecomingforyou · 28/09/2018 23:18

The flu vaccine has no live vaccine in it, so cannot give you flu. I had my jab 2 days ago. Arm is hot and red but no other symptoms.

A couple of weeks, @enervator?! Perhaps you caught a different bug at the same time as having the flu jab.
