Does anyone else react like this to tampons?

FuckyDuzz · 28/09/2018 20:38

Before I had children I used to use tampons with absolutely no issues

But since having babies within about 15 minutes of having one in I get a headache and start to feel sick and dizzy until I take it out, then the relief is instant

I periodically try again to see if I’ve got over this weirdness but it’s the same every time

Does anyone else get this? What is it and will it ever go away?
I bloody hate wearing sanitary towels and really wish I could go back to tampons

Maybe try a menstrual cup. I keep thinking about trying one but there is such a choice now

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 28/09/2018 20:44

I had similar issues but also causing dryness and pain. Swapped to a cup even though I was freaked out by them. Total convert now wondering why the hell I didn't do it sooner!

Cornettoninja · 28/09/2018 20:44

I wonder if the position of your cervix has changed/got lower?

First time I tried a mooncup I think I put it too high and felt like this. There is a ‘thing’ that touching your cervix can provoke a reaction.

Yes! I get headaches and really can’t tolerate them any more. No idea what it is but glad it’s not just me! My youngest is 8 so has been going on for a while Sad

3luckystars · 28/09/2018 20:47

I faint after a smear test or colposcopy. I know it’s going to happen now so I am ready.
Maybe it’s touching your cervix?

Thesearmsofmine · 28/09/2018 20:49

I can’t use them since having children either and mine were all born by c section.

Cleanermaidcook · 28/09/2018 20:57

Yes I get headaches and dissyness with them.
Switched to menstrual cup it stopped the problem.

KatyN · 28/09/2018 20:59

I had a weird reaction whenever I wore a tampax and by chance I tried using organic ones from Waitrose. I Find this very odd and quite annoying but it works.

Never had this before children.

hidinginthenightgarden · 28/09/2018 21:01

I cant use them since having kids. Dry, itchy and don't stay put!

Not much better with towel so I switched to mooncup which is amazing!

Pasithea · 28/09/2018 21:07

Yes I used to faint with them have pain and nausea same after. Using condoms. Was told it was a kind of toxic shock.

SausageOnAFork · 28/09/2018 21:10

I used to get that.
Then I left one in for longer and got toxic shock.
Stop using them and try something else. I had TTS twice but I’ve used a cup for 15 years without a problem.

ApollO88 · 28/09/2018 21:12

Yup I now can't wear them since DS was born 7 years ago. It feels like I've inserted it sideways! I had some tearing so I'm guessing that they just sit in scar tissue and this causes the pain.
Keep thinking of trying a sponge but haven't gotten around to buying one

Waterlemon · 28/09/2018 21:17

I find certain brands effect me more than others.
Tampax are no good (all types) but I can tolerate lilets and a couple of cotton organic brands that I can get in Waitrose (both applicator and non applicator types) I wondered about bleach or the fibre used? But now I wonder if it’s just the shape going on earlier replies

FuckyDuzz · 28/09/2018 21:38

I’m so glad it’s not just me!
Interesting that it could mean its touching my cervix, I hadn’t considered that
Would a mooncup not cause similar issues? 🤔

Thighofrelief · 28/09/2018 21:45

I found that I couldn't work the applicator anymore and it ended up in the wrong place. I found the super plus tampax compak was good. I also tried a mooncup (actually I got a £2 cheapie from Amazon) and found it was OK but a bit hit and miss if it was in the right place or not. I hate pads but sometimes no option.

dementedpixie · 28/09/2018 21:49

Mooncup sits lower I think

Gibble1 · 28/09/2018 22:13

I can’t use them since I had DS. Was ok after DD. Dry me out horribly, itchy and they work their way out.
STs make my skin itch.
Thankfully don’t have periods now due to coil but have to have it changed next year 😬😩

flopsyrabbit1 · 28/09/2018 22:41

same mine used to move down

Hoppinggreen · 28/09/2018 22:44

I can’t use them since having children
They make me feel queasy and just wrong

Camelsinthegobi · 28/09/2018 22:48

I can’t use tampons now - is agony. Have discovered that my cervix now drops down really low during my perios. The shorty menstrual cups are good because they sort of sit around my cervix. So happy since I discovered this as i hate STs.

Thighofrelief · 28/09/2018 23:10

Strange isn't it? Seems a lot of us can't get on with tampons post baby. That's a lot of women for many years. Hasn't research caught up?

TheDowagerCuntess · 28/09/2018 23:43

No I haven't experienced this, but haven't used tampons in some years now.

I'd definitely recommend a cup - they sit just inside.

sliceofcheese · 28/09/2018 23:54

I can't use them either. They make me feel sick, dizzy and very uncomfortable. I bought a cup and I swear its magic. There's an ick factor but it holds more than a tampon, doesn't feel uncomfortable and I swear I get less cramps.

OlennasWimple · 28/09/2018 23:57

Mooncups sit much lower than a tampon so definitely worth a go (I'm another late convert and wish I had been using one 20 years ago)
