Double glazed bathroom window has been smashed I don’t know how

Any clues as to how the inside pane could be smashed? The windows are about five years old and my landlord will go mad so I will have to pay to get it fixed. My flat mate hasn’t been seen since Sunday but I can’t see how anyone would beable to smash it. You’d have to stand on the toilet for a start. Do I just leave the glass in as it is until I can afford to replace it?

That's pretty mad, but London I suppose. Ring around, I wouldn't expect higher than £60 all in.

If you know anyone who's DIY-handy you can almost certainly get the glass unit for ~£20 from any glazing place.

It looks like I owe my kids an apology. We had a new bathroom window put in ago in 2010 and excatly The same thing happened. I blamed the lads and no one owned up to it!
It seems like it's a thing!!!

Just call a glazing company and say you have a friend in the business that has told you prices of glass units and how long it will take to replace so that they don’t rip you off, like someone else said don’t pay anymore than £60 for glass and maybe £40 max for fitting it,
You don’t want it guaranteed,
float glass & not toughened,
The guarantee won’t cover breaking again so anything else other than that the landlord would have to cover anyway.

Some years ago I was tormented by several windows breaking on the inside pane. It kept happening one after the other. The inside pane looked as if it had been smashed in the middle. Each time we asked a local glaziers to deal with it as the window people (recently replaced) had stopped trading. They came to measure up and give us an estimate, took the window away for a couple of hours and replaced it. Over a year or two they replaced about ten. Once replaced it didn’t happen again but eventually we had this glazing firm replace all our windows and it didn’t happen again. It was a mystery that really upset us as ghosts were suggested etc. We even had a surveyor around who pronounces that there was nothing structural that could cause it. I think the thermal explanation was the reason and I remember the original firm
made their own windows so there was something different as the new ones haven’t done it (crossing everything)!

You don't need a new window, it just needs the double glazed glass unit replacing. It should not be expensive as others have said. You need a glazier, not a window replacement company.
