I need decent shoes and boots, don't want to spend £££

As the title says. My current shoes and boots are on their way to the bin, I also need to ditch some old summer shoes. So I need decent, supportive, but not frumpy shoes and boots for the autumn/winter. Was looking at hotter and schuh but its all so expensive! Any suggestions of where to shop? Thanks in advance.

If you like some of the shoes on the schuh website have you tried looking at the schuh imperfects site?

It's the shoes that have slight defects, usually slight marks or colour discolouration. But they're a lot cheaper but obviously only have certain styles/sizes. I've had a few shoes from there before and haven't been able to spot the defects. They do have accurate pictures of the defects so you know what to expect.

Failing that, do you know anyone who is a student? Pretty sure students get a discount of 20% at the moment in schuh and office.

Sitranced · 28/09/2018 16:18

Ebay. Try on the shoes in the shops then buy cheaper or second hand but in good condition.

HildaZelda · 28/09/2018 16:19

Yes, I was going to suggest nabbing a nearby student too! I've taken my nephew with me before and he's been able to get 20% off for me. Schuh didn't seem to care that the size 3 heels being purchased were clearly not going to be worn by the 6 ' 2" guy actually purchasing them!

Deichman are decent enough and really cheap

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 28/09/2018 16:24

M&S? They do half sizes and wide fit. I’m currently wearing a pair from there and the padding is good.

Ariela · 28/09/2018 16:29

It may seem expensive, but IME Hotter do last and last so aren't actually expensive in terms of longevity & especially if you buy with an offer. MUH50 gets you buy 1 get 1 half price for example. My Hotter shoes generally last in full time use 3 years (I tend to have only one pair of shoes I wear full time). My outgoing pair are Hotter 'Shout' my new ones are 'Mist' (thought I'd try waterproof for dog walking).

I have looked at M&S they seem comfortable but not found any I really like nor can I say how long they'd last.

EvilRingahBitch · 28/09/2018 16:34

If you sign up for an M&S sparks card then there will be a 20% off shoes offer before too long.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions, really appreciate all the ideas. No student sadly! But lots of other ideas to check outSmile

Hotter can often be found in Debenhams half price shoe sales so worth checking there

SallyOMalley · 28/09/2018 16:44

Have you had a look at the Clarks outlet online? There are often significant discounts - and not all totally frumpy.

Saladd0dger · 28/09/2018 16:57

What about get the label? I recently purchased some lovely rocket dog boots for £30. They are £60-70 every where else.

fishfingersandketchup · 28/09/2018 17:42

More ideas, thank you all. I think I need to go into a few shops and try on to see what size I am (my feet can be a 6, 6.5 or 7 depending in brand/style) then see if I can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Charity shops - yes it's hit and miss but I've bought barely worn £200 new Jones boots for £10. Most towns/cities have areas with lots of charity shops so I just go from one to another.

fishfingersandketchup · 28/09/2018 18:34

Wow anniehm I never seem to find bargains like that!

If you are desperate for shoes from schuh pm me and i'll see if I can get a student code for you to use!

GreenthoughtInAGreenShade · 28/09/2018 19:04

Surprised no one has said ebay - i’m a 7 v.wide shoes and i’ve just got two lovely pairs of brown and black knee-high boots for winter, both nearly new and v.elegant and both under a tenner. Just put in fairly tight search parameters and “save search” so you are sent email alerts every morning if something suitable is listed and be patient.

fishfingersandketchup · 28/09/2018 19:13

@flutterbean thank you that's really kind. I'm planning to look in Clarks and Hotter over the weekend and try on for sizing as they are local to me. If no luck there I will pm you for SchuhSmileThanks

Another vote for hotter - I have very broad size 8-9s, with high instep, really difficult to find boots I can get my feet into but I bought these Mystery boots last winter & they are brilliant.

£105 here but second pair half-price if you can find another pair you like.

Also with the extra wide fit I only needed an 8, I was delighted with that Grin

However I also bought a pair of Mist shoes & the 8 extra wide in those were really tight, so the sizing isn't consistent.

There's a 20% off Clark's discovering my on vouchercodes x

fishfingersandketchup · 28/09/2018 20:15

Oh those boots are lovely GiantKitten😍

GiantKitten · 28/09/2018 20:25

They really are, fishfingers!

Beautiful soft thick leather, & so comfortable! Good job you’re going to an actual shop though because you really can’t tell from the website what the difference is between tan & dark tan Grin

fishfingersandketchup · 28/09/2018 20:45

Maybe I need bothWinkGrin
