Tired and overwhelmed

Doobydoobydooyeh · 28/09/2018 13:10

I just don't know where to start! I work part time. Run my 2kids around here, there and everywhere. DH world long hours and commutes. I've had the day off today. Tried to have a nap cos I'm so tired but just lay there with my heart racing fast and couldn't switch off. I'm so so tired. I did have low iron and b12 acouple of years ago. I don't do any exercise cos I'm so unfit and just don't know where to start. Feel nervous to start! Want to eat healthily but again feel overwhelmed. Want to meal plan but struggle to think what we will all eat. Wanted a productive day today but haven't really achieved anything and have to go back to school in an hour.

Was wondering if anyone knew anything that might help me?

NuzzleandScratch · 28/09/2018 22:35

No suggestions I'm afraid, but I often feel the same! I think modern life puts so much pressure on us, trying to be all things to everyone!

AgentCooper · 28/09/2018 22:37

Have you ever tried mindfulness meditation? I have problems with anxiety and find mindful breathless can be quite helpful for me getting to sleep when my mind won't shut up. Probably a good idea to get your iron and B12 checked again.

You have my sympathy - I have a one year old who is still waking multiple times a night and I start back at work on Tuesday. So tired I could sleep standing up and I don't see work helping!

AgentCooper · 28/09/2018 22:37

Mindful breathless = mindful breathing

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2018 22:39

Liquid iron
And get your B12 checked again

How old are the dc? Can you simplify meals a bit, at least a couple of days a week, and have things like:
jacket potatoes with cheese/salad/coleslaw etc
slowcooker stew of some sort
something on toast
soup and bread
sausage baguettes / hot dogs with corn on the cob or salad
picky meal - dips/carrot sticks/bread etc

Doobydoobydooyeh · 28/09/2018 22:39

Thank you. Yes have done some mindfulness breathing before that's a good idea. Got my 40 year old health check coming up soon so will ask them to check iron and b12 again. I have a 7 year old who wakes up lots in the night!!!

Hello!

You sound like you have anxiety. There is tons of stuff you can do.

I know this will sound shit but eating healthy and well being do come in hand.

Do you spend much time on apps ??

A fit bit helps to get you off your arse. (It really does)

Down load a calorie app calculator

Get rid of dairy.

I was fat but have lost weight not by being mental but by just trying a bit.

Good luck love Flowers

Doobydoobydooyeh · 28/09/2018 22:41

Thanks Remus they are 7and 11. Yeh I could but DH often doesn't eat in the day and likes to have a proper meal in the evenings. I almost always end up cooking different things which is annoying especially when I have been at work all day too.

Go to the gp, take some time off, for yourself. If you can farm the kids out for a night do. Talk to dh about long term plans.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 28/09/2018 22:43

What do you mean by long term.plans?

Musicalstatues · 28/09/2018 22:44

Hi, don’t have any magical answers but didn’t want to leave this unanswered!!
You sound quite anxious to me, do you suffer from anxiety at all?
Exercise - maybe look in to couch 2 5k if you want to try something a bit structured? I did it a couple of years ago and it’s brilliant!

Meal plan - what do you cook now? I have a core list of meals I make and then every couple of weeks I look for something new to try. Could you think of 10 meals to start with that you all will eat and then go from there? Get the rest of the family to suggest their favourite meals and use those?

yummyeclair · 28/09/2018 22:47

I second using a fitbit . Use a slow cooker for meals , lots of receipes on slow cooker Central website or mumsnet thread. Also do something you like doing- me I love reading .so I set the timer for 16 minutes twice a day. Get walking outside and use couch to 25k app. Good luck !

Wiggler1 · 28/09/2018 22:48

B12 deficiency can make your heart race, and cause anxiety and problems sleeping even when you feel exhausted so definitely get that checked out, once you can’t absorb it (which if you’ve had it in the past seems likely unless you’re vegan) you should be having injections.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 28/09/2018 22:51

They only ever gave me one set of injections 2 years ago and then kept saying I didn't need any more as my levels were fine but my hair was still thin and still is now which is upsetting too.

Absolutely don't cook different things! Husband can either get used to something simple-ish sometimes or help cook!

PeridotCricket · 29/09/2018 07:23

By long term plans I meant if he’s commuting a long way and you are working part time and knackered. Is there any way any of that can change?

Also mussels and sublingual vir B12 tablets.

zippyswife · 29/09/2018 07:31

I’ve been where you are.

Try the headspace app- free trial. It’s 10-15 minutes a day of mindfulness.

Excercise- I highly recommend the 30 day shred. I did it when I was completely unfit- it threw me into it and forced me to work hard and get fit quick. It was good for my mind as much as body.

When fit I started running. This is the single most best thing for me. To get out in the fresh air and just run. Anyone can do it and it’s free.

Come off social media. Facebook etc are a drain on real life and make me more anxious.

I have 3 dcs 7,6,2 And work part time. Life is stressful but these things helped me.

Good luck

ILiveInSalemsLot · 29/09/2018 07:35

Why are you cooking different things? Unless there are allergies and intolerances, just cook the same meal for everyone.
Tell everyone that’s what you’re going to do and ask for their suggestions.
Then meal plan for the week, put it up on the fridge so everyone knows and don’t start moaning when they sit down to dinner.
If you work part time, can you find some time to go for a long walk a couple of times a week? Go somewhere where there’s lots of nature like a nice local or country park. Nature and walking is really calming and grounding.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 29/09/2018 07:37

But the kids want quick things like fish fingers or pasta pesto cos they are starving after after school and it needs to be quick and I also want something slightly more interesting than that! My son loves macaroni cheese but no one else does so sometimes I do that just for him. There are so few things that we all like. I wish there was.

OP posts:
Doobydoobydooyeh · 29/09/2018 07:39

I like the idea of coming off Facebook but can't quite bring myself to do it. I have FOMO! mindfulness and walks are a good idea.

MrsMozart · 29/09/2018 07:44

Give children a snack as soon as home from school to keep them going until dinner time.

Get back to the doc and explain how drained you are and your hair thinning.

Decide on tackling small steps - so each week plan to do one thing (doc, then snacks for children, then meal plan). It should take the weight off you of thinking of everything at once. Maybe carry a small notebook or use your phone to jot things down when it's not "that thing's" week. Stop you fretting about forgetting points. What's the balance with what you do and what your DH does?

ILiveInSalemsLot · 29/09/2018 07:52

get your kids to eat proper meals rather than quick frozen food that lack nutrients (unless you’re serving them with lots of veg and good carbs)

RainbowBriteRules · 29/09/2018 07:58

I could have written your post OP. I am part time yet get nothing done. DCs need to eat hours before DH and one DC is fussy. I have no idea where time goes as the house is a mess by the end of most days so it is certainly not spent on organising that. I did start exercising which I am pleased about but that has actually given me less time to do things in the day, not more.
