For the past few years I've had the luxury of working from home but now waiting the outcome of an interview where I'll need to travel for work.

Any ideas for gentle awakenings would be very much appreciated to ease me in to my hopeful new routine.

Yes, on the iPhone clock there’s a thing called bedtime. I set my wake up time on it and it plays the loveliest little tune as an alarm call!

notacooldad · 28/09/2018 12:35

Workday mornings usually begin with Planet Rock radio as my alarm and DP brings me a coffee. It's been that way for years!!!

Nacreous · 28/09/2018 20:53

I’ve done 15mins to out the door before. I still do if I have to be out before 6:45.

But it really does make me feel better if I have time to get up, have tea, have the radio on etc. Because I feel like I have chosen a less time efficient option meaning that more of my time is time under my control.

When I am getting up 15 mins prior to leaving and have to cycle instead of walk or drive instead of cycle then that all becomes time “on the clock” when I’m being controlled by work factors. And that makes me feel down.

Lumie sunrise lock is the thing! 100%

Radio Four. If the news is too grim to digest first thing in the morning the radio gets switched to Radio Three.

Lumie alarm clock. I get singing birds and a gentle 'sunrise' waking me.

simplepimple · 29/09/2018 08:06

Thanks everyone - I'm taking on board more time in the morning = more control and less feeling of 'I have to...' and now looking for which little Lumie most suits my needs....birdsong is sounding serene...

I know its just a question of developing a new habit - losing a sense of freedom takes a bit of getting used to.

The ugliest - yet most beautiful thing in my house.

Please tell me your favourite way to be woken up on workdays.

I got a 2pm-10pm job to avoid all the morning hell! Get up when my body gets me up and get ready at my leisure

PhilomenaButterfly · 29/09/2018 09:30

Iruka I downloaded an app like that after reading your post yesterday, it was lovely! The only thing is that I have to set it 5 minutes early or it's too quiet to wake me up! 😴😴😴😴😴😴

OhHolyJesus · 29/09/2018 09:31

One of those light wake clocks that slowly wake you up by increasing the light like a sunrise. Works well in winter for those dark mornings.

WisestIsShe · 29/09/2018 09:32

My fitness tracker has an alarm function and it vibrates gently in my arm. Definitely an improvement on my phone alarm.

Myusernameisunique · 29/09/2018 09:41

Sorry to barge in on this thread but I've thought for a while about getting a sunrise alarm clock. I definitely suffer from SAD and I think it would help now it's coming into darker mornings again. Can anyone tell me the differences between a cheaper and a more expensive one. I'm not overly bothered about the way it looks but there's a huge range of prices. I can get one for about £20 or you can spend over £100 on a Philips one!

OhHolyJesus · 29/09/2018 12:39

I have an expensive one and have had problems with it - I'd go a cheaper one in future but I did get my one fixed under the guarantee.

museumum · 29/09/2018 15:19

Lumie were the original sellers and their bulbs are expensive as they’re designed to emulate the wavelengths of natural daylight, cheaper lights might not do this. I have the cheapest lumie and can’t fault it.

kaytee87 · 29/09/2018 15:22

My 2yo saying 'mama' through the monitor or if he's slept with me giving me a kiss once he's awake 💙

Heatherjayne1972 · 29/09/2018 15:31

No one enjoys getting up for work!
Handily I have a cat who will sit on my head at 4.30am everyday Making sure I’m up and awake in plenty of time
Thanks cat

Myusernameisunique · 29/09/2018 15:38

The lumies look good and not too expensive for a standard one. Thank you!

DrWhy · 29/09/2018 15:39

Another vote for a 2 year old, saying ‘mummy, mummy get up’ and gently tugging on your arm! Makes mornings way less painful (and they don’t have a snooze function!). However in the minimum of 2 years that it would take to procure one I would also recommend a sunrise alarm clock of some kind.
