I just collapsed on the kitchen floor

Not long been asleep when DD2 woke up. She asked for some water so I took her to the kitchen and I felt blood rush to my head and felt really unsteady. I put her down on the floor and lowered myself down. I think I blacked out. I got up off the floor but had the same feeling of blood rushing to my head and felt nauseous. I took her back to my bed and we're laying down now and I don't feel dizzy, just a little nauseous still.

I'm a single parent, here on my own with 2 DDs. I'm severely sleep deprived as they both sleep badly but they were with their GPs last night so I got a full night sleep. I'm not sure if this is from being tired or if I'm coming down with something. But I'm worried that I'm here on my own feeling like this while I've got 2 DCs to look after.

Both of these events happened when you'd just got up / stood up. It's quite possibly caused by a drop in your blood pressure ( that is what happens when you stand up - BP goes down ). I'd suggest getting along to see a doctor as soon as you can, but I'd also be making sure that you are hydrated - have a cup of tea and a rest. Take it easy today , and any time you have to stand up from lying / sitting, take it slowly.

Possibly not helped (mind you I’m not a doctor) by low blood pressure- as above, are you sufficiently hydrated? Blood sugar levels okay? Maybe get up, slowly, and have a very sweet cup of tea plus a glass of water?

This must be worrying for you, but I’m sure a sleep will help. Can you maybe message a friend or family member that you’re feeling unwell and ask that they give you a quick call in the morning to check you’re all okay?

OlennasWimple · 28/09/2018 02:03

Have you had enough to eat? A spoon of sugar in your tea or a biscuit might be helpful too (I know I don't eat properly when I'm tired, particularly if I'm on my own for a bit, and that can make me light headed)

Oh how scary for you OP. I’m also awake with DD2, so right there with you regarding tiredness.

You need to get checked ASAP, can you call their GPs to come and stay with them? I’d be more concerned about it happening again whilst cooking or preparing hot food/drinks nearby.

Did you feel rough before bed? I'd have something sweet like pps say

MulticolourMophead · 28/09/2018 09:06

Hoping you've got some sleep and also had something to eat and drink.

I agree its a good idea to get checked if you can.

Thanks for all the messages. DD2 was up for another couple of hours. I took today off work and after school and nursery drop off I went back to bed and slept for over 6 hours. I've eaten and had something to drink but I still don't feel right. My period is due so I'm wondering if it could be something to do with that? I think I'm going to stay at my parents house tonight just in case I feel worse in the night again.

Sorry, as for eating, I previously was eating really badly - skipping meals etc - but I've eaten much better this week. I had all 3 meals yesterday. And I didn't feel unwell at all when I went to bed.
