Any way to reduce risk of scarring on child??

Not really sure where to post this.. my middle child (aged 3) had a toy car thrown at him from quite close proximity and with force - it hit him pretty hard on the forehead. The cut is small but deep, there was a lot of blood considering the size of the puncture.

Any tips on how to reduce scarring? I know it’s likely to happen anyway and unlikely to be anything I can do but any tips would be appreciated! We are keeping the wound clean and covered for now but will take the plaster off probably tomorrow.

Obviously I know it’s not the end of the world etc if it does scar but would like to reduce the risk if I can! Thanks all!

I haven't got any particular advice - but two of my children have both had quite deep facial injuries. One when he was 2 right in the centre of his forehead. He's 12 now and you can't see the scar and in fact it was gone within a year (just checked his primary school photos!). My other child aged 9 had a cut close to the eye needing stitches, a year later and it's faded so much you barely notice. I think it'll be almost invisible in two years.

My DH used a silicon gel called Dermatix on some very deep scarring from shingles in his forehead.

It was recommended by a private dermatologist and seems to have done a pretty good job. I think you can get it at Boots.

A quick Google searches it ok for children.

When it's healed over, massage it quite hard with oil. Just rub along it quite firmly with your thumb.

This was the advice given to us when DS3 split his head open to the bone and had to have it stitched under a general. I think it was the plastics consultant who told us to do this but I can't quite remember as it was about 5 years ago! You can barely see it now.

Thanks for the replies so far... will definitely try the oil and look at the silicone gel!

DS has a little red mark on his cheek that has been there for over a year - no idea where it came from! He has recently been a bit self conscious about it (he is 10) so I bought some bio oil. It was on special offer in boots so I figured what the hell even though I was sceptical. Anyway we have been putting it on every night and after a week it has definitely faded quite a bit. So that may be worth a shot?
