Future proof jobs?

Just reading something about how the top 10 jobs of the future don't yet exist and was interested in what you think are future proof jobs

OP posts:

Midwife and undertaker.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/09/2018 17:52

Care work.

KingBobra · 27/09/2018 18:17

Hairdresser. Futurologist.

To be fair, there's a whole world of jobs that didn't exist 10 years back. The first iPhone launched 11 years back, and was the smartphone. Apps weren't a thing 10 years ago. YouTube launched 12 years ago and "being a Youtuber" is now a career.

DrDreReturns · 27/09/2018 18:26

Apps did exist ten years ago but they were called computer programs! On that note I think there will be a need for people to write software for the foreseeable future, I can't see it being automated.

Possibly Dentistry?
Difficult to have robots doing it (although not impossible?).

IStandWithPosie · 27/09/2018 18:34

Agree with hairdresser.

Also chef/food service, and childcare (but not a great earner)

LaDameAuxLicornes · 27/09/2018 18:36

IIRC from a BBC article a while back, the most future-proof roles are ones like priest, psychoanalyst, doctor, midwife, social worker. Ones that can't easily be replaced by robots because they require social and/or emotional intelligence to function. The most at-risk roles were the most automated ones like checkout staff, telesales, and clerking or secretarial work.

Think this was the link I was thinking of.

I'm currently developing myself as a violin teacher, and I think that music teaching, and related skills based teaching, actually makes up another category that is unlikely to disappear with technology. How many people can make a living in it may vary over time though.

hmmwhatatodo · 27/09/2018 18:58

How long do you think you tubers and streamers will be around for?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 27/09/2018 19:12

Instead of thinking about the jobs of the future (which is difficult to predict) think about the skills you need to develop which will help you adapt to an ever evolving and changing labour market.

topcat2014 · 27/09/2018 19:15

Pretty sure a lot of my world (accountancy and the supervision of accounting support staff) will shrink rapidly.

Thing is I'm not much good at anything else :)

The software I write is being automated. I'm trying to get a foot in the door of specifying the requirements and validating the automation package and the auto-test packages.
So yes and no, because there will still be some software and development, but its focus is already shifting.
