Am I the only one who doesn't have professional photos of my children and family?
I only have school pics and then a million photos that I've taken. No professional ones because DH thinks it's a waste of money (he's extremely stingy)

I don’t have any. None of my family do, not DPs.

Namechanger1776 · 26/09/2018 22:56

Nope not one. Not even school pics they always look so miserable at school!

katienana · 26/09/2018 22:59

I've taken mine to Max Spielman a few times it cost about £35 and I got loads of photos in different poses. Only tough bit is choosing prints when dc are fed up and want to run off. Take another adult with you if you can!

ambostraw · 26/09/2018 23:04

I don't, and I don't buy the awfully staged school pictures either. What a waste of money. I do however have thousands of wonderfully natural pictures of my children

MewithaC · 26/09/2018 23:13

I have 1 because after my mother died I realised there were none of me and dd, not even while i was pregnant or the day she was born so I panicked in case I died when she was little and there was no evidence I ever existed.

Most professional photos are dreadful. Big white background fake canvas shit. I am not stingy, but I agree with your DH. They're a waste of money.

Notso · 26/09/2018 23:25

I really dislike posed photographs and I'm not a fan of having loads of photos on display either.
I can't stand naked newborn pics, or those jolly family on a white background shots.
I begrudgingly still buy the school ones because I bought most of DC1's. We didn't have a camera and smartphones weren't a thing until she was much older. The school ones were the only way to get pictures of her. So now I feel I have to do the same for my other DC.
I do know a professional photographer who does really nice natural shots and am considering paying for a few. They similar ones I'd want to take but I always seem to manage to get a bin in the background or a table full of dishes etc Hmm

Davros · 26/09/2018 23:44

None because they're extremely naff

BackforGood · 26/09/2018 23:50

I had the free ones they offered when they were born Grin.

happymummy12345 · 26/09/2018 23:50

We don't. And dh is a photographer, not professional as such but has some events and things.
He's never used his proper camera to take pictures

happymummy12345 · 26/09/2018 23:50

Of ds I mean

I have many photos of my children and some of them are professionally taken ones, yes.
We had some for our 1st child as a newborn. They're lovely but did cost an absolute fortune so never got any of our 2nd.
We have several from our wedding.
We have some from nursery where the photographer hung around and caught candid shots of the children playing normally. They're great, too.
We have 1 posed, typical school shot of each child. I do like them because of their smiles and bright eyes.
We have 1 posed, typical school shot of both children together. I don't like this one because the background is awful - really dark fake bokeh that almost hides their dark school jumpers. I won't be paying for them this year, though.

I do photography as a hobby and the reason I took it up and learned how to do it properly was that I wanted decent pictures of my children as they grew up without having to pay for a professional. I take lots of photos of them from the informal, candid shots of them playing to the more staged, posed ones where I've used lights and a backdrop. I've printed several of them out and we have them in frames around our house.

None. I do buy the odd School photo although not without ranting about how surely they are a hangover from the days before most families would have their own camera and do we really still need to do it. No other professional photos. Uncle took our wedding photos.

MrsDrSpencerReid · 27/09/2018 02:11

I buy the school photos and do all the rest myself.

I taught myself photography so I would always have nice photos of my kids. As a bonus I’ve done a few weddings, newborns etc. Just for family and friends to help them out, but my camera gear has been a great investment for me Smile
