I've just been having a chat with a friend and she surprised me some what ,so I thought I'd ask for you lovely lot what you would do. Be honest !
I've been looking after a friends house for the last few weeks whilst they have been away. Checking post, watering house plants etc. I usually go in twice a week. This is what I do. Open door, pick up post, put it to one side, walk to kitchen, check plants to see if dry, water if needed. Leave house. Lock door. Go.
My other friend has asked if I have a good poke around, go upstairs, look in cupboards/ wardrobes etc and was surprised when I said I didn't. So question - Do you if you have keys to someone's house ?

No way!

PurpleDaisies · 26/09/2018 18:51

No.

xoguineas · 26/09/2018 18:51

Definitely not!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 26/09/2018 18:52

Yes, I have keys to a friend’s apartment so I can empty her mailbox and check round that all is okay. And like you, I don’t poke around, I respect her privacy.

Dancer12345 · 26/09/2018 18:52

No, that’s awful! When someone gives you a key to their house they’re placing a huge amount of trust in you. To abuse that would be awful. Plus I’d be horrified if someone did that in my house.

SomeKnobend · 26/09/2018 18:52

No.

SneakyGremlins · 26/09/2018 18:52

I did when I was like 7 Confused not now I'm an adult!

Dljlr · 26/09/2018 18:53

Absolutely not, no. But, I did once (!), when a neighbour asked me to feed her cat. I went upstairs to see what the hell there was in her bedroom that made the awful whirrring noise that disturbed me every night (really thin walls between our properties). I didn't open any drawers or anything, just peeked in the room and couldn't see any likely culprit. Neighbour was frosty with me forevermore after she came home and my own guilty conscience convinced me she somehow knew that I'd done it, which made me feel even worse.

It's pretty nasty to poke around someone's home really.

Singlenotsingle · 26/09/2018 18:53

No. Not interested.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 26/09/2018 18:53

No! Not even my best friend! If she wants me to see something she'll show it to me...

I struggle to understand how anyone decent would poke around tbh.

(I did fold her laundry when it was dry though.)

Sirzy · 26/09/2018 18:54

Make a mental note never to ask her to move your post!

CloudCaptain · 26/09/2018 18:54

So... Never give her a set of keys.

SneakyGremlins · 26/09/2018 18:55

Dljlr Shock

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/09/2018 18:56

No

But

I think quite a few people would

Apart from the massive intrusion
I'm not that interested really Grin I mean OOHH food in the food cupboards clothes in the clothes cupboards.

PlateOfBiscuits · 26/09/2018 18:57

I would never go upstairs or open cupboards or anything Shock

But I would enjoy ‘looking’ around me (just with my eyes) while I was getting on.

When anyone cat sits I encourage them to stay for a while (have a cup of tea and sit cuddling the cat) so she has company. So I would be fine with people having a little bit of a nosey to find the cat.

CoffeeShortbread · 26/09/2018 19:01

No. I have keys to my best friend’s house as I look after her pets etc when she’s away. It has never occurred to me to look through her things. TBH, I barely have time to do the feeding/watering stuff, nevermimd invading her privacy.

SLoisachtal · 26/09/2018 19:01

The same as everyone else - no way, it wouldn't cross my mind to poke around.

On one occasion, though, some friend's went on a very last minute holiday and admitted, before they went, that they hadn't tidied anything up so would I mind collecting cups, plates etc from all over their house - including their bedroom - and putting the dishwasher on! I did that, but it still wouldn't have crossed my mind to have a poke around.

LonginesPrime · 26/09/2018 19:06

What's the appeal in opening someone's wardrobes anyway?

gamerwidow · 26/09/2018 19:11

Absolutely not it would be a massive invasion of privacy!

OhNoGroken · 26/09/2018 19:13

No, but I once did a good friend’s washing up as she had left in a hurry.

mostdays · 26/09/2018 19:13

Ugh no, that's weird and rude

JennyOnAPlate · 26/09/2018 19:14

No. Although I did once look through kitchen cupboards to find a mug and a tea bag. I was babysitting for a friend and wanted a drink. She did raise an eyebrow about it but I think it's pretty normal to want a drink at some point during a 4 hour babysit....

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 26/09/2018 19:16

I am a cleaner and have a whole bunch of house keys!! I never snoop!!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 26/09/2018 19:17

No, I always feel uneasy going into other people's houses when they aren't there. I just get out as quick as I can.

However people apparently do poke around - Amy Sedaris suggests filling your bathroom cabinet with marbles to find out who goes poking through your stuff while retiring for a wee.

ToftheB · 26/09/2018 19:20

Of course not! I often pet sit for friends and would never dream of going near their stuff.

(Except when I’m feeding my sisters cat and I know she’s pinched some of my clothes. We’re still like bloody teenagers.)
