What would you consider unreasonable daytime noise?

I was always under the impression that anything goes during the day. Perhaps it does, I don't know.

I've moved into a new house and my next door neighbour seems to have a gym complete with heavy weights, punching bags etc set up on or against the party wall.

He uses it for about an hour and a half every afternoon, which doesn't sound that long but it involves my entire house sounding like it's caving in with loud bangs and thumps every 3 seconds for the duration.

I tried going into a different room when he does it but I can hear it everywhere. I went outside trying to figure out wtf it was at first and you can hear it all the way up the street.

Perhaps IABU, but it's stressing me out already. It's every day. But I don't feel like I can ask him to stop, move it, insulate it better etc, as it's during the day...

What would you consider unreasonable daytime noise?

Honestly I think I'd prefer blasting music to this.

I think you need to contact your council. They should come round and measure the decibels. There's probably a limit on how long a level of noise can go on. Google it.

Or go around and introduce yourself like a human. And inquire kindly whether the exercise he/she does at xpm could be moved to the opposite wall since you work at home at that time of day.

Seems a good starting point...

@Skittlesandbeer I plan to! I haven't done so yet because as I stated I was under the impression that anything goes and I wouldn't have a right to ask him to. That is exactly why I'm trying to gauge responses here so I know whether people generally think I'm unreasonable to request something like this for a daytime activity. If general consensus is that it's fine to ask without fear of causing trouble already then I will. Already had the landlord from next door shouting at me for something someone else did. Christ.

@Justgivemeasoddingname thank you I'll look into it
