Really stupid fucking question about my high temp...

It's gone from 37.4 this afternoon, to 38.4...38.5...and is 38.7 now at 21.25hrs.

I cannot get warm and have flu-like symptoms like shivering so am in bed under a pile of duvets. Will this make my temperature go up?! It's a Braun in-ear digital job.

God knows how my kids have made it to nearly 5 and 8 with me being this useles....

Have you taken paracetamol? That should help to bring your temp down, you should avoid having lots of blankets as it could make you overheat

Eeyoreismyspiritanimal · 25/09/2018 21:32

Yes been taking either paracetamol or ibuprofen every 4hrs since 8am.

Will strip a duvet off then! Thanks.

Poor you sounds horrid. Make sure you are drinking lots of water, you will be losing moisture through your high temperature.

I was like this two weeks ago. I ended up sitting shivering until my temp went down although I wasn't sure whether the shivering would counteract it by heating me up IYSWIM.
Also Google sepsis - I checked my pulse and resp rate and was within OK range.

Bubblysqueak · 25/09/2018 21:38

When I had a raging temp but had shivers and couldn't get warm, the doctor said I should wear normal PJ's and only one duvet/blanket , before going to the out of hours doctor I was under 3 duvets, pjs, fleece dressing gown and a blanket and still couldn't get warm and was physically shaking (I had a huge infection that needed strong antibiotics).

Thanks guys. Have been in a coma thanks to meningitis before so am keeping a close eye on other symptoms, like for sepsis. Hoping it's just a really bad cold or a touch of flu as I'm too busy to be ill! Grin

No such thing as a touch of flu I'm afraid, when I had it I said to my OH "I don't think I feel well", went to bed immediately and pretty much came to a week later - it was awful and there was no way I could have sat writing posts on MN, it literally hit me like a tonne of bricks. Doesn't sound like the flu but possibly a bad cold

Eeyoreismyspiritanimal · 25/09/2018 21:50

MyNameIsFartacus (love the name btw!) Your flu sounded horrendous. Def a bad cold I have then. Will drink some cough syrup and woman-up.

@Bubblysqueak oh wow poor you! Yes I've been in pj's, socks, thick fleecy dressing gown, two duvets and a blanket this evening ! Think the last lot of ibuprofen are finally kicking in as shivering stopped even when removing some layers.

This is “going round” - it’s the closest I’ve ever come to flu. I had it 3 weeks ago and it has wiped me out. Shaking in bed under 2 duvets and 2 hot water bottles. I had a horrendous cough that made my head feel like it was hitting my skull. Still got the cough nearly 3 weeks later. Think sinuses are blocked as I can’t bend over without intense pain. I also had an ear infection at the same time. No sore throat weirdly.

I had a high temp for me but as I’m normally really low 36’s it was only just over 38. I didn’t take much paracetamol as I thought general advice now was to let body do its own thing to get rid of the virus by being hot?

Crunchymum · 25/09/2018 22:30

Sounds like your body is trying to fight something, hence the fever and the temperature.

Keep an eye as medication should ideally help it come down!

3WildOnes · 25/09/2018 23:12

It sounds like the flu to me. The flu virus can be mild. My dad had swine flu (diagnosed by doctor) and wasn’t massively poorly.
