Jet2 seat allocations -- no seats together for me and 5 year old?

Flying with my 5 year old DD next week. I've just logged on to check-in and having been advised to book seats checked the seating plan -- there are no seats available together, the seating plan is fully booked except for random single seats here and there. I realise I may have missed a trick here with seat booking (it has been several years since I last travelled abroad) but are they seriously going to make a 5 year old sit on their own for several hours?!

I would imagine whoever is seated beside your five year old will be happy to swap!
If not sit back and enjoy the Wine

They should have kept some seats back for this sort of eventuality.

Many people will have booked and chosen seats, or chosen seats at check in before others on the flight have even booked, so they have to be able to help people like you who need a pair of seats. I'd get to the airport early and ask if there is anything they can do. Or you might be able to phone them or ask on online chat. Jet2 are pretty good - they've put us together before even when we haven't paid and we're a childfree couple. It's just that we usually book late and sometimes find ourselves in a similar situation no pairs of seats even if we were willing to pay, which we almost never do.

I was told that they don't seperate children and parent

Thanks, yes we're a last minute booking too, so don't imagine it would have made much difference if I had bought seat allocations when I booked a couple of days ago (I was initially a bit traumatised by the £50 cost of a seat for two people outbound and inbound nice little earner for them there, eh?). I've booked the two nearest seats and will do as you advise.

Ive flown with Jet2 three years running-only me and DH. We've never paid to sit together, never pre-booked seats and have always ended up sitting together. We don't book last minute just too tight to pay extra to sit next to each other.

I do think Jet2 are pretty good, I'd try phoning if you can and see if they can help

purpleme12 · 25/09/2018 20:30

I really wouldn't worry. Their policy is to not seperate a child from their adult, travel agent told me this, so just explain when you get there and I'm sure they'll be able to sort it

Nicknamesalltaken · 25/09/2018 20:32

They’ll hold seats and won’t release them until check in.

WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs · 25/09/2018 20:32

We had this, explained when we got to the airport and they moved some other people to sit us together. Was a bit stressed but wasn't a problem in the end.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/09/2018 20:34

Ring them and they will sort it

idlenook · 26/09/2018 10:53

Thanks everyone for your replies -- hopefully it will all be sorted!

I wouldn't have paid for seats in this instance - you haven't actually gained anything by paying for the two separate seats. Personally, I find Jet2's website a bit "misleading" when it comes to the seat selection part of the booking. It's almost like it is compulsory to choose a seat, then quite difficult to remove when you realise it's actually a chargeable extra!

I flew Jet 2 a few weeks ago. I tried to check in online when it opened but the system wouldn't let me. Apparently they only let a certain number of people check in online (even if you've made the booking saying you will) and then the rest of the seats are allocated when you get to the airport to cover situations like this. So I think you'll be fine.

ineedwine99 · 26/09/2018 11:28

Can you tweet them rather that waiting until you arrive at the airport?

Oddsocks2 · 26/09/2018 12:53

Don’t worry. We flew with them on holiday. We couldn’t check in online and I worried about not being able to seat the children with adults. However at check in they had our entire party of 5 together. It is not in their interests or anyone else’s to separate children from the parents.

Kezzie200 · 26/09/2018 12:56

My clerk couldn't check her daughter in when they tried - it flagged up her date of both and stopped her booking seats. It gave her a phone number to ring, which she did, and they sat them together. This was Ryanair but I dare say they are all similar. Give them a ring.

Notsohorriblehistory · 26/09/2018 12:58

Ring them

My guess is that you have already been allocated seats. Together.

I have never ever pre booked.
I have always been seated with my two children.
When I have rung in the past yo confirm (Ryanair easyJet and BA). They tell me that as I haven’t let booked, they will allocate.

We flew Jet2 with DS at 5 - on the way out they moved people around for us so at least 1 parent was with him, but on the way back (tenerife) they said as we were only separated by 1 row and both on aisle seats that was fine.
So I was in say 4c and he was in 5d and husband was in 11c. He was quite happy to be stuck on a tablet with earphones and no interferance from me!
