This is the end of nap time, isn't it?

Sob!
DS was 2 a month ago. The last 5 days, he hasn't napped.
Today, we've been to a play group, home for lunch, then soft play for the afternoon. He's currently running around the living room, pretending to be a train.
I'm kissing goodbye to my peaceful hour and a half in the afternoons....

Quite possiblySadboth mine gave up their nap between two and two and half

GrumpySausage · 25/09/2018 17:36

I feel your pain. I had a baby 3 months ago and my toddler DS stopped napping the week after. Admittedly he was 3.5 so I knew I was on borrowed time but he could have at least given me a few months 😩

That hour of peace with a cup of tea was keeping me sane.

Rachie1986 · 25/09/2018 17:39

When my DD was that age (maybe a bit older) we started quiet/rest time. Built up from 20mins in her room, with toys she didn't have anywhere else (sticker book, colouring, easy jigsaw, books etc). Developed into 30mins independent play in her room and 30mins watching cbeebies on tablet. Still does it on weekends now if were at home and she's just started school.

Appreciate it might not work for all, but it kept me sane!

My 2 year old did this a couple of weeks ago for a full week but is back to napping again so there might still be hope.

RubyLux · 25/09/2018 18:11

We all have rest time now that naps are becoming a thing of the past. Cbeebees on Kindle for children and Audible for grown up. No one allowed up for at least an hour. We all go to bed.

It's a sad day when it begins happening. Late afternoon grumps are the next fun packed thing to look forward to Wink

Vanillaradio · 25/09/2018 19:09

Take him swimming. Ds who dropped his nap at a very similar age to your ds would still have one after swimming for about 6 months after!

LoudestRoar · 25/09/2018 19:17

Vanillaradio tried that! He has swimming once a week, but still no nap.
On the plus side, bedtime is a breeze tonight!Grin

Same here! Was a bit longer than a week I think though, and it takes a while for him to settle sometimes now but he generally he will nap for 1-2 hours again. God knows he definitely still needs it. He won't nap at nursery and is a right nightmare when we get home, I have to put him straight to bed at 6.

Do you drive OP? Could a car nap work! If DS falls asleep in the car for a good 20 mins I can usually transfer him into bed when we get home with no issues.

SoyDora · 25/09/2018 19:40

Both mine dropped theirs at 20 months and never napped again, even in the car!

Fatted · 25/09/2018 19:45

My youngest dropped his naps at 18 months! Consider yourselves lucky!

I miss the days when they were little. I managed to get my youngest when he was a baby and my eldest who was 2 at the time to both nap at the same time in the afternoon! Didn't last long though!

sunshineandshowers21 · 25/09/2018 19:47

my youngest, who is four and a half, started school this month and was still having afternoon naps right up until the day before he started! no amount of trying to keep him awake worked. thankfully he’s settled into a routine without them but he still naps in the afternoon on weekends. my eldest napped until about three and a half too. i think we’re just a sleepy family tbh. i nap everyday from from 1-3 😂

SoyDora · 25/09/2018 19:50

Fatted my DD1 dropped her nap 2 weeks before DD2 was born 😩

DelurkingAJ · 25/09/2018 19:53

My eldest has weekend naps again now he’s at school (just gone into Y1 so we’ve had a year of them). Not every weekend day but most of them.

CoodleMoodle · 25/09/2018 19:58

I read that the average age for giving up that beautiful afternoon nap is 2 year, three months. DD refused to nap on that exact day and hasn't since. She's 4.5 now and up until she started school I still missed it!

LoudestRoar · 26/09/2018 16:08

Well, he napped today, and he's bloody miserable now! I'll see how it pans out...

Yes, sorry. You have to wait until he is a teenager and doesn't get out of bed until midday at the weekend. Saturday and Sunday mornings become your peaceful time then!

CakeNinja · 26/09/2018 17:30

Ds was still having his long afternoon sleep at age 3! He was the youngest, the others were at school, it was the best 2 hours of the day.

AamdC · 26/09/2018 17:54

My oldest hss been doing that for a while @MiddlingMum and hes only 11 (well 12 at xmas) maybe he will mature quickly?Grin
