There's loads of vet nursing Jobs around my area. A lot of the jobs require a years experience to get the job.

I did animal science at university as you then can go to do nursing/ zoology or animal biology. I've been offered work as animal technician in labs before I finished my degree. Although I haven't gone in to work with animals as I now have children and most people on my course do non animal related job.

Farrier is the bod who puts horses shoes on! There’s more to it than that but that’s the basic idea.

Perf why was it so time consuming as a dog walker?

If you’re picking up dogs for a walk, you have to take into consideration the travel time to actually collect them all, say six dogs so six houses, then getting them into the car/van (they’re not objects so you can’t just chuck them in). Next the journey to the dog walking area, then you walk the dogs for an hour, then drop them off. Depending on where you’re collecting them from, your talking about at least three hours work for a one hour walk. Great if you can walk six, but not if you’re walking less or giving discount for more than one dog from the sand house. You then deduct your transport costs and other overheads. You’re also trying to keep all your clients happy, with some having unrealistic expectations of your availability.

Doggy daycare/holidays, means I have all the dogs in one spot and can pick and choose where and when I walk them.

dog walking is NOT a career! Please don't encourage her to do this. Its a part time pin money job

dog walking is NOT a career! Please don't encourage her to do this. Its a part time pin money job It’s a first step for many dog sitters and at a minimum of £20 an hour, quite decent pin money, I’d say.

Really villain ? That’s the sort of thing my dh advises her, he’s in finance and is v well paid, and he tends to think the same, down job that earns as much as possible, so you can enjoy your free time doing things you really want to do

Where as I think, try n do something you enjoy, but I’m not sure how realistic that is

I am with your DH. go for the highest paying career you can, which has the lowest working hours and stress (for the money).

Then you can spend lots of money and time on your hobbies.

Start by encouraging vet science. Use it as a focus to do their very best at all their GCSEs. Cant go wrong.

If they are simply not up to it, they can adjust to another role or even career, as they will have done their very best at a whole raft of subjects and can then decide on adapting to a more suitable job.

She is also interested in structural engineering and being a primary school teacher

How old is she?

Animals, teacher or engineer is quite a diverse range of potential career choices.

She could train as a human physio then specialise in animals

My friend does this!

I feel like there must be a middle ground between ‘work with animals ‘ or ‘find highest paid job you can’. Chasing money doesn’t sound like a route to happiness.

Did you say she is also interested in teacher? That might be worth exploring?

lastqueenofscotland · 26/09/2018 13:37

How old is she...
with the exception of vets few animal jobs earn anything at all.
Vet nurses, grooms, farm hands etc often earn a pittance.

Farriery is well paid but you would need to be incredibly confident on the ground with horses.

LardLizard · 26/09/2018 14:21

She’s only just started secondary, so got loads of time to change her mind or decide
