Urgent need ideas for help

Help on holiday in Croyde Devon, no car. 3 year old awake and really complaining of ear ache, and of course the Tesco shopping arrived with no calpol (just two lots of adult paracetamol). There are no chemists open in the area, so cant even send a taxi from a local chemist. She is really distressed. Any clever ideas?

Is there a petrol station open? They can pass medication through their little slot thing even when the shop is shut but pumps are on. Taxi there? Or, 24 hour supermarket?

Belleende · 25/09/2018 00:23

not that i can find online.

Google the dosages. I would have thought a half tablet of the adult one might be ok?

Is there a hot water bottle you could fill with warm water and lay on her ear, I know not actual medicine, but might soothe it a little til you get some.

TheSageofOnions · 25/09/2018 00:27

The NHS site has info on giving paracetamol to children. Or ring 111 and ask their advice.

TheSageofOnions · 25/09/2018 00:28

If no hot waterbottle, a flannel or towel soaked in hot water also works.

Check late night opening on this link then take a taxi? www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/Pharmacy/Barnstaple/Results/13/-4.058/51.078/10/1173?distance=25&ResultsOnPageValue=100&isNational=0

MarthaHanson · 25/09/2018 00:31

Could you get a taxi from Barnstaple to do a collection for you-it looks like there’s a 24 hr Tesco there-it is a 25 min journey but maybe worth it if she’s really suffering? Earache is the pits.

cheesepretzel · 25/09/2018 00:31

Kitchen towel/flannel in a mug, pour hot water over it,tip head sideways and place ear over mug, might help?

PlaidPjamas · 25/09/2018 00:34

DD gets regular earaches and hot water bottle / warmed towel/flannel always does the trick.

Belleende · 25/09/2018 00:42

i dont think it is recommended to give kids the adult stuff. anyone medical on here. 111 will probably tell me to go to a&e, which i think is not needed. she has calmed down a bit watchi ng cbeebiez

Tangfastics · 25/09/2018 00:51

of course you don't give an adult dose. the dosages are on the nhs website.

UseditUpandWoreitOut · 25/09/2018 00:58

Is CBeebies still being broadcast at this time?
Maybe you could Google for info since you don't want to do the more obvious and responsible thing ring111?
Not sure 111 would want dc to go to A+E for earache.

Belleende · 25/09/2018 01:08

ohhh 24 hr tesco. may resort to that,

sallysparrow157 · 25/09/2018 01:12

a local taxi company may well go to 24 he Tesco, get some calpol and ibuprofen (which is likely to be a bit better for ear pain) and bring it over to you at a price - probably a lower price than a taxi there and back...

Paracetamol syrup dosages for children

2 to 4 years Infant 7.5ml The strength of the syrups are:
infant syrup - 5ml is equal to 120mg

Tangfastics · 25/09/2018 01:15

sorry the paras aren't working

lapetitesiren · 25/09/2018 01:22

Ring the duty chemist for the area , which you can google, and they will advise you the correct dossage. You can then crush the amount of tablet you need between 2 spoons, according to their guidance. Mix it with something to make it palatable ( jam, honey, nutella......) and give it.

Belleende · 25/09/2018 01:24

Fuck. No cash, DP bought me a lovely ring today with the last of it. Bugger. She has just managed to nod off. Coop in Braunton opens in 6 hours. Going to be a looooooong night.

TuMeke · 25/09/2018 01:28

Back in the day, a teaspoon of warmed olive oil used to be a good remedy - if you have some, it might be worth a try to soothe her while you wait for the local shop to open?

Belleende · 25/09/2018 01:28

I am tempted to use 100mg of the adult stuff, but I am wary as although that is the right dose, the forumulation my not be suitable for children, have rung 111 to see if they can get me an appointment for her tomorrow

OP posts:
lapetitesiren · 25/09/2018 01:30

02073732798. This is the number for a 24 hour pharmacy. Nowhere near you but hopefully they can advise you over the phone.

lapetitesiren · 25/09/2018 01:34

Why don't you change the thread title to something clearer such as " any pharmacists awake?" Then you might get some useful advice on here. You can double check it on Google ( as you can't be sure people are who they say they are).

CrepuscularCritter · 25/09/2018 01:36

Does the Tesco just outside Braunton open any earlier than the CoOp? Wondering if that would get you sorted a bit more quickly.
