Anyone applied for kids passport online?

Just that. There's no bit that wants a photo or birth certificate....but it wants all the money first. Anyone else done it online? When did you submit a photo and if you did it during the application how did you get it certified? Don't want to continue and pay til I know what's coming. The gov site explanation doesn't match with my actual online application experience so far. (Definitely on right site!)
Thanks if anyone can tell me their experience.

You apply online. You then have to print off the forms and send it with the countersigned photos (2). If it's a renewal, the old passport too.Ive just done my dd's and it took about 8 days max.

Thank you. At the point of payment none of that is clear. It says you go on to print and sign, then send, but implies you're printing the details you've just filled in. Nothing about photos. It does say it's a beta site so it's a work in progress I suppose. Thanks again. Feel reassured.

Yes, it prints the details you've just filled in. Then you attach two photos, one of which is countersigned, with the countersignature details. (assuming first passport) you pay before it's "on its way" . But you know it won't be rejected because of something like not fitting letters into boxes.

Also you can track progress really easily.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 24/09/2018 23:00

Yes, I did two this year. There's still the part at the back that your counter signatory has to fill in to say how they know you. It only took a week from sending them off.

heattreated · 24/09/2018 23:04

yes, exact same as thomasshelby, complete majority on line, pay, print and send off counter signed pic. arrived in 3 weeks.

Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 23:05

Oh this way is soooo much easier. Just pop your child's FULL birth certificate in the envelope (Don't make the same mistake as me. I put the wrong one in accidentally even though I knew which one had to go) with a photo and countersigned photo and have them fill in their own details on the signatory form that is printed off too. We had ours back in about 11 days (that time was birth cert error included!)

Did anyone pay the £5? Is that for the actual passport, (so if you don't pay they send 2nd class Royal Mail) or is it just the safe return of the documents?

Just safe return of documents. The passport was delivered by courier. It arrived before the docs. I got a text to say they received it and when they had agreed it and were sending it out, and one the day before it would arrive.

CazM2012 · 24/09/2018 23:21

We did it 3 weeks ago for 4 DC, pay, print then sign and attach any documents and photos. I was impressed and received them within a week. I refused to pay £5 each for the documents and they arrived the same day as the passports!

I did not find this way easier. I had three to do at once. If you do it online you are not eligible for the check and send process, and the PO will absolutely not check it over for you. When you print, it can sometimes put all the pages back to back in a funny order and you aren’t sure which to include. And each application is sent to an entirely different address for processing, you can’t put them all in one envelope, so you need to get the right parts with the right application. Additionally the pages print with different margins so it’s not always clear what’s what. If you are doing just one, go for it.

Homemadearmy · 24/09/2018 23:25

I’ve applied that way to, I printed a extra copy of the sheet the counter sign just in case they made a mistake. I didn’t pay the extra for the documents to be returned and they came the same time as the passports

0rlaith · 24/09/2018 23:26

I did it recently and it was fine. I didn’t need the photos countersigned as the child hadn’t changed much from the last passport photo. I just printed it off, attached photos and old passport and posted.

treegone · 24/09/2018 23:55

@IamPickleRick would you recommend maybe I do them all separately rather than sending them off in one go. I'm doing 4!

I just got really confused - maybe if you do one through to the whole process, then start on the second one, then do the third, and so on. I made the mistake of doing all my printing in one go, then doing all the photo signing, then trying to figure out wtf went with what when the reference numbers had all been half cut off by the margins and trying to get the right application to the right address (three different addresses!) 😂 That was my mistake I think. You might also get a nicer lady in the PO than me as well, she just categorically said no she would not look at any of it to check it was ok.

CazM2012 · 25/09/2018 07:50

I did 5 in one application and they all went to the same place, 4 first time passports and a change of name for my own. You just end up with a lot of printed paper and only need to send the declaration forms to them

IamPickleRick · 25/09/2018 09:20

Wow really? The PO lady told me they all went to different addresses to tackle fraud. Each application generates a new address, it was different sides of the U.K. I paid recorded delivery on them all too so it was really expensive.

IamPickleRick · 25/09/2018 09:25

Mine were done in May this year and were 2 new and a renewal if that makes a difference?
