Is this a balanced meal for a 4 & 2 year old?

Half a cheeseburger each (decent burger - Tesco finest beef burger) with cucumber sticks and red pepper and some dairylee light to use as a dip.

Is this a balanced meal?

Thanks

If I was fussing I’d say that the burger, bread and cheese spread together make it a tiny bit high in salt for little ones. Otherwise it seems fine: protein, carb, veg, dairy, job done!

Strawberrytraveller · 24/09/2018 18:23

It doesn't seem very much, especially for 4 year old. Theres no carbs etc, so I would have given a whole burger with the raw veg and cream cheese. I would also add a more filling veg like 1/2 avocado each, or assume I would give a desert after like some greek yogurt with crumble or a banana.

My 5 year would probably try to eat the table after that. All kids have different appetites though I guess, as my 3 year old wouldn't finish it.

Was it just the burger or was it in a bun?

gobbynorthernbird · 24/09/2018 18:52

Why are you using Dairylea light? Are the DC on a diet?

HushAByeBaby · 24/09/2018 18:59

It was a burger with a slice of Gouda on a roll (cut in half and split between them).

Well dairylee light was all they had in the shop. I'd normally buy full fat. Although we did receive info from nursery with regards to healthy packed lunches and it did suggest using reduced fat cheese instead of cheese but I haven't taken any notice of that to be honest.

Doesn’t sound like enough food to me.

SoyDora · 24/09/2018 19:33

My 4 and 3 year olds would still be hungry.

HushAByeBaby · 24/09/2018 19:36

They had pineapple chunks after, does that make a difference?

OP posts:
SoyDora · 24/09/2018 19:44

Well mine would still be hungry after that and pineapple chunks but it yours weren’t then it’s not a problem!

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/09/2018 19:48

Sounds plenty for kids that age. There's bread/carbs protein in the burger and cheese and veg. Agree it's perhaps a little high in salt but not the worst . A whole burger woykd he a bit much for a 4 year old mine would only he given half at those ages too.

Seniorschoolmum · 24/09/2018 20:21

Sounds fine, all the food groups are there.

Scotinoz · 24/09/2018 20:42

If they were full and not whinging, I say it's a winner 😅

PodgeBod · 24/09/2018 20:45

It would be enough for my 2&3 year olds but they are grazers.

Claw001 · 24/09/2018 20:46

Sounds ok to me. If they were full after eating and didn’t want more, it was enough!

Camomila · 24/09/2018 20:46

Sounds fine. My 2 year old probably wouldn't manage to finish half a burger in a roll.

Strawberrytraveller · 25/09/2018 08:21

Ah sorry, I thought it was just half a burger without a roll. In that case its probably enough, well was if they weren't complaining they were still hungry. I would just use regular cream cheese though in furture, theres no need to reduce fat in something that is naturally fatty ie dairy. many low fat products are then replaced with artifical contents which are far worse
