Volunteering?

ApolloandDaphne · 24/09/2018 17:22

Have you done any volunteer work or things like the PTA at the school? Done any courses? Anyone at all you have been involved with in a semi professional way?

I was going to say have you helped out at any of your DC's clubs they attend?

PersianCatLady · 24/09/2018 17:27

Do you know any professional people who would give you s character reference?

PersianCatLady · 24/09/2018 17:29

The OU did me a reference for my teacher training application and they asked if I wanted a copy for future reference.

When I received it, I was amazed by it and thought that it must be some generic type thing.

It wasn't, if was done specifically for me and it makes me sound brilliant (which I am, of course)

I know professionals who could give me a character reference, but it's ages since I've done any pta stuff. That will have to do by the looks of things.

I’ve recently got a job as a TA after 12 years out of paid work. I did volunteer and got the chair of s support group I used to run as a referee and a friend who was a teacher provided another (we had volunteered in school together but with families, not children.

its not ideal obviously as it takes time, but if you start volunteering in a charity shop they will usually provide a reference. I think a pastor or any "upstanding member of the community" who knows you and the work you've done would do for a ref. The pastor esp. if you have been involved in your church besides just attending services. Have you done any community service projects thru your church? if you need references for the charity shop, put down a family friend or distant relative

Are there any people you've been in contact with in your role as admin for your DH (suppliers/customers)? If you know any of them well they could provide a reference.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/09/2018 17:47

It doesn't matter if it was ages since you were on the PTA. If the headteacher at the school or PTA chair can vouch for you being hard working, good time keeper, trustworthy etc then that will be fine.
